HAT Gonna.
Application filed September 21, 1927. Serial No. 221,075.
This invention relates to hat guards or hat securing devices, more particularly for straw hats of the boater type, its object is to provide a simple device for restraining the hat from the effect of gusty breezes without the necessity for the use of long and entangled cords which do not prevent the hat from leaving the wearers head but at best merely anchor it to other clothing.
duce a guard which is practically unobserv:
able, and which is also immediately attachable or detachable to the hat Within which it can readily be I secured without inconvenience when not required for use.
I effect these results by the use of a band consisting of a short piece of narrow and'pref- "erably elastic fabric to each end of which is secured a small detachable hook of special and handy form for quick insertion into the b fabric of the hat just below or near the edge of the sweat band, so that the elastic band passes from one side of the head (over the vicinity of the ear) around the back of the head to a similar position on the other side,
' 5 the band engaging in the back hair which combined with the shape of the head at that part tends to hold it in position in such a Way that the hat does not leave the head even under the e'lfect of a violent gust of wind.
The exact details of the invention are more clearly explained by the aid of the drawings herewith which form a part of this application, and in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a. hat with my detachable guard attached ready for wear, Fig. 2 is a view of the guard detached from the hat, Fig. 3 is an edge viewof Fig. 2, Figures 4, 5, and 6 show details of A further object is to prothe hook and the means for quickly securing it to the band.
In these drawings the hat is indicated by 40 the numeral 7, the points on the hat for the attachment of the guard by 8. The hook 9 at each end of the elastic band 10 is formed by an integral projection from one side of a double disc 11, the two discs being linked together by the connection 12. The discs have one of their edges formed into upturnedteeth 13 which when the two discs are folded one upon the other as in Fig. 4c engage the fabric of the band and secure it'firmly between the two parts when the latter are pressed together.
The hooks 9 are small and inconspicuous and are instantly insertable into the fabric of the hat, the circular members 11 serving as a con venient hold for the finger and thumb in this process. a
Having now fully described the nature of my said invention, what I claim and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a straw hat securing device the combination comprising, a short elastic band, a clasp engaging each extremity of the said band, said clasp comprising two discs linked together at one portion of their periphery and folded thereat so that their respectivepe- 5 ripheries coincide, a small sharp pointed hook of circular cross section secured to the edge of one of the saiddiscs, a series of line upturned projections of the nature of teeth formed on the edge of the said discs, the said teeth on one disc being adapted to fit between the corresponding teeth on the other said disc.
