IMPROVEMENT m GAME APPARATUS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,937, dated February 16, 1875; application filed February 4, 1875.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, VIoroR KLOBASSA, of Washington ,inthe countyofWashin gton and in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Games; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, makin g a part of this specification.

The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a device for ejecting balls to constitute a game, or take the place of other devices for throwing dice, or their equivalents, in any game where the same may be used, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same with the cover removed, and Fig. 3 shows a modification of the same.

A represents a box of any suitable form or shape, and of any desired dimensions. This box is, by a vertical cross-partition, B, divided into two compartments, A A the former of which is covered by a cover, C. The cover C and partition B may be made in one piece, as shown, and be riveted or otherwise permanently attached to the box. To the sides of the box, in the compartment A are secured the ends of a rubber spring, D, in the center of which is fastened a rod or bar, E, passing out through the end of the box, and provided with notches 00, so that by pulling said rod or bar the spring may be stretched, and held by pressing the bar to one side, so that the notch will catch on the box. In the center of the partition B is an opening, a, at the lower edge, which opening may be closed by a slide, 12, as shown. 61 61 represent balls of suitable size to pass through the opening a, which balls m ay be either numbered or colored in different colors, or otherwise marked to be designated one from another. I

The operation of this device is as follows: The spring D is drawn back, and held by the rod or bar E, when all the balls are passed through the opening a into the compartment A, and the slide 1) closed. By now shaking the box the balls are thoroughly mixed, and the box is then placed on a table or other support, when the rod or bar E is released, and the spring suddenly contracts,'expelling one or more balls through the opening a into the compartment A? of the box, where they are counted.

More than one opening a may be used in the partition B, if desired, so as to expel balls through more than one hole at a time.

I do not confine myself to any particular spring, nor form of spring, nor to any particular means for operating the spring, as it is evident these may be changed almost indefinitely without changing the principle of my invention. For instance, as shown in Fig. 3, a steel spring may be used, the ends of which pass through slots in the sides of the box, and operated by a wire handle passing through an Lshaped slot in the cover C. Wires, strings, and other devices may be used for operating the spring.

Having thus fully described my invention,

what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The box A, having the interior partition B, with one or more openings, (1, the cover C, spring D, and operating device E, to be used with balls cl, or their equivalents, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
