1 Claim.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in toys, and has for its object to provide a toy that may be said to comprise two devices in one, as it may be used for two entirely different games or plays.
Thus the said device constitutes a novel ball game, which may be played by manipulating the handles, or bars, throwing the ball out of one receptacle with the object of catching the said ball with the other receptacle, and vice versa. In addition the propeller may be spun simultaneously with the ball game or independent of the latter.
As the cost of manufacturing this article would be very small, it is thought that this device should have great market possibilities.
With the above and other objects in View, this invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, and in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all views, and in which:-
Figure 1 is a top plan view of my device.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of one of the two handles, or bars; while Figure 3 shows a propeller.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, l indicates two curved bars, or handles, each carrying at one end thereof a cup-shaped receptacle H, made of any suitable material, and adapted to receive a ball 2! therein; a double folded string l2 connects the two bars by means of apertures I3 formed in the latter.
At the middle of the said string is arranged a propeller I4; the said propeller has upon each side attached thereto a disk 15, and the said disks and propeller are each provided with two apertures therein to receive the double folded string, each part of which passes through one of the said apertures, the said parts of the string being in turn provided with a knot l! a short distance from the said propeller and upon each side 5 thereof.
The bars H) are somewhat below their center pivotally connected to a cross bar l8, as shown at [9; and above and below the said cross bar are arranged means of a springy characteristic, 10 for instance, as shown in the drawing, rubber bands 20, for the purpose of giving tension to the handles l0 during operation and manipulation of the device.
It is obvious that changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement. of the several parts, as shown, within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I do not therefore wish to limit myself to the construction and arrangement shown and described herein.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
A device of the class described, comprising two bars, each one of these being formed with symmetrically, inwardly extending curvatures, and having one end terminating into a handle-grip,
a cross-bar mounted on top of said two bars and near the said handle-grip, each of said two bars being pivotally turnable on the said cross-bar, two cup-shaped receptacles adapted to receive a ball, upon manipulation of the device, each receptacle being mounted upon one of the opposing ends of the two bars, and a detachable rubber band mounted near the said cross-bar, whereby to bring the two bars under tension, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
