Description

' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM WENTZ, OF GENEVA, NEW YORK.
Specicaton of Letters Patent No. 15,991, dated October 28, 1856.
To all 'whom it may concern Be it known that I, VILLIAM ETENTZ, of Geneva, in the county of Ontario and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Shaft-Tug; and I do hereby declare that the same is described and represented in the following specifications and drawings.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention I will proceed to describe its construction and use referring` to the drawings in which the same letters indicate like parts in each of the figures.
Figure l, is a front elevation of the shaft tug. F ig. 2, is a side elevation.
The nature of my invention consist-s in making a metal ring for the shaft with a projection on one side for the bar of a buckle provided with a score for the loop of the buckle tongue; with a loop on one side of said ring for the trace to pass through; in a second loop in a proper position on said ring for the belly band strap.
In the accompanying drawings A, is a metal ring of a proper' size to receive the shaft of the carriage for which it is intended, provided with an enlargement or made thicker at B to receive the bar C, of the buckle D, for the back strap which enlargement B, has a score cut in it for the loop of the tongue E,-which surrounds the bar O, where it crosses said score.
The loop F, is made in a proper form and size to permit the trace for which it is intended to pass freely through it, so that it may be easily inserted or withdrawn in applying and removing the harness.
The loop G, is made of a proper form and size to receive one end of the belly-bandwhich may be put through it and fastened by sewing or otherwise. This loop G, is made in a separate piece and riveted to the tug as represented.
This shaft tug is far better in many respects than the leather ones heretofore used, besides it is fifty per cent. cheaper and will last twice as long.
I contemplate that this tug may be made either with or without the loop Gr, for the belly band; also that it may be made with a friction roller in the lower part for the shaft to rest and traverse upon if desired, and that t-he lower position of the buckle below the bar may be omitted.
I believe I have described the construction and use of my shaft tug so as to enable any person skilled in the act to make and use it, I will now state what I desire to secure by Letters Patent to wit.
I claim The new manufacture of shaft tug described to wit a metal shaft-tug provided with a buckle for the back strap and a loop for the trace, either with or Without a loop for the belly band.
