' DIAPER-PIN.

Specification of Letters Patent No. 11,272, dated July '11, 1854.

Be it known that I, J. RABBETH, of East Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Victoria Diaper-Lock; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1, is an inverted plan of the diaper lock, as it appears when locked. Fig. 2, is a side view of the same, not inverted. Fig. 3, is a vertical longitudinal section of the same, as it appears when unlocked. Fig. 4,

\ on a greatly enlarged scale. Fig. 8, is a side View of the diaper pin, patented by Woodward, in May, 1842. Fig. 9, is a transverse section of the same through the protective loop. This pin is represented` for the purpose of showing plainly the difference eX- isting between it and my diaperlock.

Similar letters of reference in each of the several gures indicate corresponding parts. This invention relates to an Vimprovement inthe diaper lock patent-ed by Voodward in May, 1842, whereby all liability of the pin getting out of its place, and pricking the child, is avoided. In the `Voodward lock, the pin is only keptconfined so long as the child lies still, and in one position, or while` suilicient pressure is brought tobear against the pin, to keep it rigidly against the pro-1 serves to securely coniine the point of the' pin after the diaper has been properly secured. The slots in the tubes being in line with each other when the point of the pin is passed into the inner tube, and out of line with one another when the point of the pin is locked in its place.

clearly, my invention, I will proceed to describe it more minutely.

A, in the accompanying drawing represents the pinholder, having its two ends, a, bent at right angles, A. B, is the pin lattached loosely to one of said ends. C, is the outer tube attached fast to thel other end, Z), of the pin-holder, A. This tube is open at both ends, and has a slot, c, cut in it, along its whole length, as shown in Figs. 1, 3, and 7. This slot allows the pin to pass into the inner tube, D, when it is in line with the slot, d, of the tube, D. `The journal, j", of the tube, D,passes through` the end, Z2, of the pin holder; the tube fits loosely in the outer tube, C, and turns freely in the same--its slot being brought in line with the slot, c, of the tube, C, when it is desired to pass the point of the pin into the tube, D, :and moved out of line after the point. of the pin has" `the tube, D. By this head, the tube is turned, and prevented from moving longitudinally, or getting outof place.

By examining Fig. 5, the manner in which the slots come in line with one another,`

when it is desired to lock the point of the pin in the tube, D, will be clearly seen; and by examining Fig. 7 the manner in which the slot, d, is moved out of line with that, c, and the pin locked securely in the tube, will also be seen.

Thepin or diaper lock shown in Fig. 8, has a loop, g, on one of its ends, and two side slots, It, 71,; through either of which the pin is passed, and can escape, and prickthe child.

I do not claim a diaper lock having a loop which is concave, formed on one of its ends for the pin to be retained under, and two sideslots, between said loop and the pin holder for the pin to pass through, assuch a pin was patented by Woodward, in May 1842, but

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The combination of the slotted permanently fixed tube, C, with the revolving slotted tube, D, arranged and operating in and for the purpose set forth and specified.
