Description

NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH C. SILVY, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.
DOOR-LOCK.
Specicaton of Letters Patent No. 13,050, dated June 12, 1855.
Tol aZZ whom t may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH O. SiLvY, of New Orleans, parish of Orleans, and-State of Louisiana, have invented a new and Improved Rotary Lock and Extension-Key; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the numbers and letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in a rotary lock and extension key, with circular bolts, which bolts are operated on by means of a lever by the force of a wheel, with catches by means of the key, forcing one bolt out of the lock half way into the catch and at same motion forces half the bolt out of the catch into the lock, thereby forming a double circular bolt when locked; at the same time a sliding bolt (in sections 8, 9, and 10) is to be ,swung inside of the lock which can be forced at pleasure by means of the extension key, which prevents the lock from being forced, picked or unlocked by any key, skeleton, wire or other thing; only by means of the extension key, and that must be set at the same gage it was left, when locked, or it will not enable you to unlock.
In the event o-f powder being placed in the lock and an attempt at blowing of the lock, which may be effected; (which is Figure 2,) but does not in any way affect the bolts. The key is an extension key, with a screw in the handle, which regulates the tumblers of the key, and is also arranged with scale, which enables you after locking to change the tumblers of the key by means of the screw, so the key will have no effect on the lock, until the key is placed back at same scale it was when locked, Vwhich key can be changed 40 different ways by means of the scale.
Reference being had to the annexed drawings making' a part of this specification to which I beg leave to refer as follows, to wit:
Figs. 1 and 2, perspective views of the two main parts, which may be seen that Fig. 2 can be blown off Fig. l, by means of powder, leaving Fig. 1 undisturbed; Fig. 3, the back view of the lock complete; Fig. 4, front View of the lock complete; Fig. 5, section of end View toward the lock; Fig. 6, end 'view from the bolt fastenings; Fig. 7, the other end view and view of the bolts; Fig. 8, view of the lock from the upper side; Fig. 9, view of the lock from the lower side; Fig. 10, section of n, 0, view toward the upper side, showing the sliding bolt and rack; Fig. 11, section of a b, view of inside to show the bolt when locked; Fig. 12, section of o, d, view of the part inside when locked; Fig. 13, section e, f, inside view of the back part; Fig. 14, section of 2'. 7c, view of the ends of the bolts; Fig. 15, the key with section P, G; Fig. 16, section g h view toward the bolts; Fig. 17, section g 7L view toward the other side; Figs. 18 and 19 the position of the bolts when the lock is opened.
Vhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The circular or solid circular bolts, one half in the lock and the other half in the catch as specied.
2. The extension key, to lengthen or close the tumblers by means of a screw or slide together with a scale to regulate the sliding bolt or bolts in the lock.
