IMPROVED SHUTTER-LOCK.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 48,925. dated July 25, 1865.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL S. GARVER, of Hamilton,in the county of Butler and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Shutter-Lockfor Store-Doors and Similar Purposes; and I. do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is an outer end view of my invention; Fig. 2, an inner end view of the same; Fig. 3, a section ofthe same, taken in the line as 00, Fig. 2.

This invention consists in the employment or use of a rack-bolt and a pinion or part pinion, arranged as hereinafter fully shown and described.

Thebolt Bis provided with a projection, e, to serve as a stop, the part pinion 0 having a notch,f, made in it to receive the projection when the bolt B is thrown back or unlocked, as shown clearly in Fig. 3. The bolt B has a spring, D, bearing upon its edge to preventit from moving casually. The bolt. it will be seen, may be readily moved back and forth in order to lock and unlock the look by turning the pinion O with the key. The lockoase A is fitted in a mortise either in the door or shutter.
The device is extremely simple and efficient, may be constructed at a very moderate cost, and readily applied.
