RULE CLIP OR HOLDER.
Application filed October 27, 1924. Serial No. 745,982.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in rule clips or holders and its object is to provide such a clip which can be cheaply and easily manufac- 6 tured.
Another object is to provide a rule clip or holder having felt gripping jaws embodied therein.
These and other objects will be apparent from the accompanying drawing and specification.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a transverse vertical section;
Figure 2 is a side view of the clip when in use;
Figure 3 is a plan view of the clip;
Figure 42 is an enlarged detail of the upper section of the clip showing the felt gripping jaws;
Figure 5 is a view of a clip used for a folding rule.
In carrying out this invention I provide a resilient metal clip 1 which may be blanked from a single piece of any suitable metal preferably spring brass. The said clip 1 has side walls 3 formed in its leaves 2 to prevent the ruler from being slipped thru the sides of the said clip 1. An auxiliary clip 4: is formed in one of the leaves 2 to provide means for securing the clip to the. clothes of the user. Felt gripping jaws 5 are secured to the leaves 2 between the walls 3 as shown at 6 to provide additional means for holding the ruler,and also prevent the numerals stamped upon the ruler to become worn thru friction.
In use the auxiliary clip 3 is secured to the pocket of the users clothes, and the ruler slipped between the felt jaws 5 of-the clip 1.
While. I have herein described a certain specific method of constructing and assembling the elements of my invention, it is understood same may be varied in minor details, not departing from the spirit of my invention as defined in the appended claim.
I claim:
A rule holder as described, comprising resilient leaves made from a single strip of spring metal and being formed with integral side walls, bent at right angles to the said leaves and extended toward each other; an auxiliary clip formed in, and bent against one of the said leaves for securing the said holder to the clothes of the user; and felt gripping jaws secured to the upper inner sides of the said leaves between the said side walls for holding a rule by means of the resiliency of the said leaves.
