Be it known that I, GEORGE W. FERN- STROM, a. citizenv of the United States, residing at lVashington, in the District of Columbia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Display Stands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in display stands, an object being to provide a stand which may be made from a. single piece of material to provide an attractive device capable of use for displaying various articles, or as .a book rest, copy holder or othersupport. I
VVitl the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction,
to be hereinafter more. fully described, illustrated in' the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective View of a display stand constructed in accordance with the invention. 1
Figure 2 is a similar view looking at the rear of the'stand,
Figure 3 is a plan view ofthe blank from which the stand is formed. 7 v 1 Figure 4 is a perspective view partly broken away and showingthe stand in part- 1y folded position.
Figure 5 is a detail plan view of the re movable shelf.
Referring to the drawings in detail where in like characters ofreference denote.corresponding parts, the stand which may be made of any suitable material, suchas sheet metal, cardboard or the like, comprises a supporting column 10 which is closed at its top, opposite sides, front and rear, the front including a lower upwardlyiand rearwardly inclined portion 11 from which extends a vertical portion 12. v i 1 7 Referring to-Fig-ure '3 of the drawings, the column 10 comprises a-i'ear wall 13 and side walls 14, the saidwalls being formed 'by bending the material along the dotted lines a, while the forward edges of the side walls lt are provided with inclined portions 5, and portions 0 which are parallel to the lines a. At the lower ends of the side walls 14 there are provided base flanges 15 formed by bending the material along the dotted lines d so as to provide oppositely located outwardly extending base flanges to stabilize the column 10. The top 16 of the column is formedfby bending the material along the dotted lines 6, while the upper panel 12 which forms the upper portion of the front wall of the coluinnis provided with side extensions 17 which project beyond the opposits side edges of the column. The panel l7 bears against the edges 0 of the side walls and these edges have V extendingtherefrom The lower panel is bent along ithe dotted line 9 sothat its incline may conform :to
the inclination of the edges b of the side walls 14. This panel is also provided with side wings 20 which extend beyond the oppositesides of the column. The edges 5. of
' the side walls 14 are provided with tongues 01' brackets 21 which extend through slits 22 provided in the panel 11 and serve to hold the panel in place, In addition, these brackets may be provided with curvededges 23 so as to securely support a bottle or other object. The'to'p 16 is-preferably providedwith side flaps 24; which are formed by bending the material along thedotted lines it, these flaps being folded within the upper edges of the side walls. l t
It will be 'apparent from the foregoing description and accompanying drawings that the construction provides an attractive and strongly constructedstand which may be inadeofrelatively light material of various kinds and when set up will provide a stand or support for the displayof different I articles of merchandise, while the panels may be utilized for advertising display, or,
may havesecure'dthereto hooks or similar devices for the support of different articles. The upperedges of the upper panel 12 may if desired be.ornameiitedas indicatedat 25, while the brackets 18 may be provided with lugs or extensions 26 to be received within slits 27 formed in a removable shelf Y 28. This shelf may have its rear edge-28 Y shaped as illustrated in Figure 5 of the drawings andflthev panel 12 may be bent along the dotted lines is to conform to the shape of the shelf.
similar to the brackets 21 and the side extensions 1'1 may have extending from their opposite edges, straps 29. These straps are des gned to extend along the rear of the column and may have their ends adjustchanges in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the-invention what is claimed is 1. A display stand formed from a single sheet of material and comprising a support" ing column having an upwardly and rearwardly inclined face, wings extending laterally from opposite edges of said inclined face and combined article supporting brackets and securing tongues extending from the side walls of the column through the panel.
2. A' display stand formed from a single sheet of material and comprising a supporting column having an upwardl and rearwardly inclined face, wings extending laterally from opposite edges of said inclined face and combined article supporting brackets and securing tongues extending from the side walls of the column through the panel and base flanges extending outwardly from the lower edges of the column.
3. A display stand formed from a single sheet of material and comprising a supporting column closed upon its sides, front, rear and top and having an upwardly and rearwardly inclined face, wings extending laterally from opposite edges of said inclined face and combined article-supporting brackets and securing tongues extending from the side walls of the column through the panel.
4. A display stand formed from a singlesheet of m'aterial'and comprising a supporting column closed upon its sides, front, rear and, top, said front including a lower upwardly and rearwardly inclined panel and an upper vertically disposed panel and combined supporting brackets and securing tongues extending from the". side walls of the column through said panels.
5. A display stand formed from a single sheet of material and comprising a supporting column closed upon its sides, front, rear and top, said front including a lower upwardly and rearwardly inclined panel and an upper vertically disposed panel, said panels extending beyond the sides of the column and'combined supporting brackets and securing tongues extending from the side walls of the column through said panels.
6.11%. display stand formed from a single sheet of material and comprising a supporting column closed upon its sides, front, rear and top, said front including a lower upwardly and rearwardly inclined panel and an upper vertically disposed panel, said panels extending beyond the sides of the column and combined supporting brackets and securing tongues extending from the side walls of the column through said panels and means'to adjust the extended ends of the upper panel relative to the intermediate portion thereof. p
7. A display stand formed from a single sheet of material and comprisinga supporting column closed upon its sides,-front, rear and top, said front including a lower up wardly and rearwardly inclined panel and an upper vertically disposed panel, said panels extending beyond the sides of the column and combined supporting brackets and securing tongues extending from the side walls of the column through said panels and adjustably connected straps, extending from the outer edges of the upper panel.
8. A display stand formedfrom a single sheet of material and comprising a supporting column closed upon its sides, front, rear and top, said front including a lower upwardly and rearwardly inclined ,panel and an upper vertically disposed panel and combined supporting brackets and securing tongues extending from the side walls of the column through the panels and a horizontally disposed shelf mounted upon the brackets and engaging the face of the upper anel. p In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
