(Cl. 21157) This invention comprises a new and improved display stand for hang-up cards carrying small articles vof merchandise, such as safety razor blades or the like.

An object of the invention is to provide a stand which may be fashioned from a single blank of cardboard or the like, which shall have ample capacity for a large number of display cards and shall include :a substantial rectangular base adequate to support firmly and maintain a series of display cards in secure position on the counter or in the show windows of the retail merchant.

To this end the display stand of the present invention comprises an elongated platform panel merging at its rear side-into an upright back panel and at its [front side into panels which are arranged to be folded into a box-shaped base of rectangular cross section reinforced by panels or panel cut-outs which are laminated to its inner surfaces. A base lformed in this manner has sufficient area, volume and weight to support the back panel securely in its upright position even when loaded with a substantial number of display cards.

The stand itself may be readily erected from a flat blank or blanks of sheet'material and when erected may be equipped with a metal component in the \form a wire hail of novel shape providing projecting hanger or bracket arms. These arms extend forwardly from upright post sections which have transverse connection by means of a rectangular loop which is contained Within the base and positively prevents twisting or other displacement of the post sections.

These and other features of the invention will be best understood and appreciated from the following description of a preferred embodiment thereof, selected for purposes of illustration and shown in the accompanying drawings in which:

The display stand in its preferred form may be constructed from a single blank of cardboard or other stiff and resilient sheet material. Such a blank is shown in FIG. 1 as comprising a rectangular, horizontally disposed platform panel 10, merging upwardly into rectangular back panels :11 and 12 defined by scored fold lines. 14 and 15 completely severed at both ends and scored to define their longitudinal edges.

The back panels 11 and 12 are provided at their opposite ends with flanges 17 whereof the outer portions 17 are set off by scored fold lines. The outer portions 17' of each of these flanges has a shallow tongue 21-8 defined therein. In the assembled stand each of the flanges 17 is (folded against the rear face of the panels and the portion thereof inside the fold line with the outer portion 17' is ice secured thereto as by gluing. The portion 17' when folded outwardly will be anchored in that position by the tongue 18 which bears against the rear face of the panels to provide a strut to stiffen the back panels in their erected position.

Side panels 19 extend from the platform panel 10 and are each provided with a tongue 20. The side panel 19 and the tongue 20 are set off and divided by scored fold lines so that they may be folded to close the ends of the box-shaped base of the stand as suggested in FIG. 7.

The front panel 13 is provided at each end with a tongue 21 scored so that it may be folded inwardly to reinforce the end walls of the base. The rear panel '16 is likewise provided with tongues 22 for the same purpose.

The back panel 111 is provided with a pair of sinuous slits 23 terminating at their upper ends by tongues 24. The scored fold line between the platform panel 10 and the back panel 11 is provided with a central slit 26, and the fold line between the

14 and 15 has slits 25.

The blank thus described may be set up by folding the back panels 1-1 and 12 into their upright position and stiftfening them 'by flanges 17 and webs 18 as described above. The front panel 13 is now folded downwardly and the narrow reinforcing panel 14 is folded upwardly and laminated to the inner surface of the front panel 13. This brings the panel 15 into face-to-face contact with the under surface of the platform panel 10 to which it is laminated. The end portions 14' of the reinforcing panel (torm end portions of the base which are rectangular in cross section and these ends are closed by folding inwardly the

21 and 22, the side panels 19 and the tongues 20. lFinally the rear side of the base is closed by folding the rear panel 16 up against the back of the back panel 1-1 and securing it thereto as by gluing.

The metal component or bail 29 of the stand comprises an integral rod or stiff wire having a pair of spaced upright post sections 32 which merge at their lower end-s into forwardly idirected [foot sections 31 and these are connected at their ends by a transverse tie section 30 to form a rectangular loop. At their upper ends the post sections 32 merge into forwardly projecting hanger arms 33. In assembling the bail in the display stand the

The post sections 32 are now forced through the sinuous slits 23 and past the tongues 24 whereupon they will be held by the wavy edges and tongues 24- of the panel 11 in contact with the front surface thereof below the slits 23 as shown in FIG. 6. The hanger arms 33 are thus held firmly. and securely in their extended positions stably supported by the back panel and the box-shaped base with each arm in readiness to receive a load of perforated merchandise-carrying cards.

in loaded condition the portions 17 of the flanges 17 are fiat against the panels 11 and 12 and the panel 12 is folded forwardly over the cards to protect the latter in shipment. At the place of the retailer the panel 12 is raised to a vertical position and the flange portions 17' are bent rearwardly and outwardly sufficiently to cause the tongues,13 to snap into locking engagement against the rear face of the panels. The panel 12 will thus be braced in upright position by the rearwardly extending flange portions 17'.

Having thus disclosed my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A display stand for articles of merchandise, comprising an elongated box-shaped base of rectangular cross section and having a flat platform panel and down-turned [front panel, together with an integral back panel rising from the rear edge of the base and held in stable upright position thereby, and a bail having a post portion secured 3 to the back panel, a foot portion secured in said base and a bracket arm projecting from the post portion and overhanging said base.

2. A display stand as described in claim 1, further charaeterized in that the platform includes a reinforcing ply comprising a rectangular portion defined between two transverse slits and scored to be folded into faee-to-face contact with the rear side of the front panel of the base and the underside of the platform panel.

3. A display stand as described in claim 1, further characterized in that theback panel is provided at both ends with flanges folded into face-to-face contact with rear face of the panel and each flange is provided with an integral outer portion folded into a stiffening position at right angles to the panel.

4. A display stand comprising a flat rectangular plat- [form panel merging at its front edge into a narrow downturned front panel and an in-turned reinforcing panel defined between two transverse slits, and laminated against the under face of the platform and the rear face of the front panel, bottom portions connected to the front panel and spaced from said platform panel, a rear panel connected to the bottom portions and thus forming a boxshaped base, and an upright back panel connected to the rear edge of the platform panel and held upright by the said base.

A display stand as described in claim 4, further characterized in that a metal bail having upright post sections is secured to the back panel through the medium of sinuous slits therein and that the said post sections are connected by a transverse foot section contained within the box-shaped base between the platform panel and the portion of the reinforcing panel laminated thereagainst.

A display stand as described in claim 4, which includes an integral metal b ai-l having spaced upright post sections supported by said back panel, the lower ends of said post section merging into forwardly directed foot sections connected at their outer ends by a transverse tie section and disposed between the platform panel and the reinforcing panel laminated thereagainst, and bracket arms forwardly directed from the upper ends of the post sections and being substantially parallel to the said foot sect-ions.

7. A display stand comprising an elongated platform panel merging at its rear side into an upright back panel supporting projecting bracket arms, and said platform panel merging at its front side into the front panel of an underlying box-shaped base of rectangular cross section reinlforced by an integral panel laminated to the inner surface of said [front panel and the undersurface of said platform panel.

Claims

1. A DISPLAY STAND FOR ARTICLES OF MERCHANIDISE, COMPRISING AN ELONGATED BOX-SHAPED BASE OF RECTANGULAR CROSS SECTION AND HAVING A FLAT PLATFORM PANEL AND DOWN-TURNED FRONT PANEL, TOGETHER WITH AN INTEGRAL BACK PANEL RISING FROM THE REAR EDGE OF THE BASE AND HELD IN STABLE UPRIGHT POSITION THEREBY, AND A BAIL HAVING A POST PORTION SECURED TO THE BACK PANEL, A FOOT PORTION SECURED IN SAID BASE AND A BRACKET ARM PROJECTING FROM THE POST PORTION AND OVERHANGING SAID BASE.
