Description
UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE.
ADoLrH sCEWAEz, or NEW vonk, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN NECK AND FACE PROTECTORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 157,640, dated December 8, 1874; application led l October 15, 1874.
Vthe city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and Improved Neck and Face Protector, of Which the following is a specication:
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in Which- Figure l represents a front view when in use. Fig. 2 is an inverted plan of the same when taken off and spread out.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
This invention consists in a neck and face protector cut out to t the 4front part of the head and the neck of a person, and provided with an opening for the face and with suitable fastening devices, in such a manner that when the same is put 011 and fastened in the rear of the head it protects the forehead, the ears, the chin, the neck, and the shoulders against cold, leaving the eyes, the nose, and the mouth free and unobstructed, and thereby an article of wearing apparel is obtained which is very convenient for use and neat in its appearance.
In the drawing, the letter A designates my new article of wearin g apparel, which is made of two pieces of cloth, silk, or any other suitable material, which are united by seams a b. Each of said pieces is cut out with a semicircular or semi-oval recess, so that when the two pieces are united an oval opening, c, is formed, as shown in the drawing. The bottom edges of the two pieces are cut out,so that they tit the neck and the shoulders, While the upper part of -the finished article ts the forehead. 0n the back of the article A is secured an elastic strap, d, Which, When the article is to be worn, is passed over the back of the head,
while on the lower parts of said article are secured one or more hooks and eyes, c, or other suitable fastening devices, which serve to secure -the article on the back of the neck, so that When my protector is fastened in the proper position it incloses the neck, the forehead, and a portion of the back part of the head, While its lower edges extend down over the shoulders, and over the upper Iport-ions of the breast and of the back.
The convenience of my protector, particularly for ladies and children, will be fully appreciated by all persons who give it a trial, and it will be readily understood that the same can be ornamented with fur, or in any other desirable manner, according to the taste ofthe public.
In the example shown in the drawing the face of the person Wearing my protectorI is left entirely free; but, if desired, the opening c can be closed and the protector provided simply withsmall holes for the eyes, the nose, and the mouth.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-.
As a new article of manufacture, a neck and face protector made to fit the forehead and the neck, and provided with an opening for the face, and with suitable fastenings to retain it in position, allconstructed substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 13th day of October, 1874.
ADOLPH SCHWARZ.
