ADJUSTABLE BOOK COVER.
Application filed Kay 20, 1925. Serial No. 31,492.
5 of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Book Covers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in adjustable book covers, and has for its object to provide a simple, cheap and efficient cover which can be readily adjusted to any size book and quickly secured in position thereon, and which can also be readily removed when desired.
The inventionfconsists of the novel construction and arrangement of the parts and combination of parts hereinafter more fully set forth in the following specification and pointed out in detail in the appended claims.
In the accompanying draw1ng,- Figure 1 is a plan view of the leaves and I one side of the book back in vertical position and the other side of the back down and 5 the coverfolded over it and secured by the fastener.
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, forming part. of this specification, and in which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the several views thereof, 1 designates the sides of the cover which are provided with the tabs 2 and 3, having a number of holes 4 and 5, respectively, to
i receive. the fasteners 6. The apertures 4 of the tabs 2 on each of the sides 1 are in align ment with each other and the apertures 5 of the tabs 3 are at right angles to the apertures 4 of the tabs 2, so that when the tabs 2 and 3 are folded over each other the apertures 4 and 5, will be brought in vertical alignment at a point where the apertures 5 cross the apertures 4, so that the fastener 6 can be inserted through the aper- Y tures 4 and 5 at this point to hold the cover in the adjusted position on the book. The two sides 1 each has its edge between the tabs 2, 2 folded back as at "7, and upon the said folded edges 7 is a piece 8, stitched for a ortion of its length at 9, leaving the ends t ereof, free to be folded back to accommodate the length of the back 10 of the book. This folded edge 7 provides a double edge when the cover is folded and prevents any raw edges from being exposed at this point when the cover isfolded over the back of the book. The sides 1 are each provided with apertures 11 near the tabs 3 and have a preliminary or primary fold the flap of no whichis held in the partly folded condition of the cover by a fastener 12 so that when the cover is folded over the back of the book the sides will be folded in to prevent any raw edges from being exposed. Having thus described our invention, what We claim is:
1. An adjustable book cover comprising two sides formed of flexible material and each having its inner edge folded over and N a tab at each end of said folded edge and a tab on the edge opposite the folded edge and each of said tabs being provided witha row of apertures adapted to be brought into vertical alignment when the said tabs are folded over each other, and a flexible piece secured to both of said folded edges and having its endsfree to be folded back to accommodate books of various lengths.
2. An adjustable book cover comprising two sides formed of flexible material and each having one edge folded. and stitched down for a portion of its length and a tab extending beyond each end of the folded edge, and a tab on the side opposite the 96 folded edge, each of said tabs being provided with a row of apertures adapted to be brought into vertical alignment when the said tabs are folded over each other, a flexible piece secured to both of said folded edges and having its ends free to be folded back to accommodate the various sizes of books.
3. An adjustable book cover comprisin two sides formed of flexible material an each having one edge folded and stitched down for part of its length, and a tab extending beyond each end of the folded edge and provided with a row of apertures, and
.a tab on the edge opposite the folded edge each provided with a row of apertures at cover and on opposite sides of the last named tabs, preliminary folds on opposite edges of of books, and a fastener to hold the sides in each of said sides, fasteners passing through the completely folded position when on the said last named apertures to hold the flap book. 10 of said preliminary folds, a. flexible piece se- In testimony whereof we afiix our signacured to both of the folded and stitched tures.
