ADJUSTABLE BOOK COVER.
Application filed August 19, 1926. 'Serial No. 130,171.
This invention relates to improvements in adjustable book covers, and has 101 its object to provide a simple, cheap and ethcient cover which can be readily adjusted.
to any size book and secured in position thereon and which can also be readily removed when desired.
The invention consists of the novel construction of the parts and combination of the parts hereinafter more fully set forth in the following specification and pointed out in detail in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a plan view showlng the leaves and one side of the book back in vertical position and the other side of back.
down and the cover folded over it and secured in position thereon.
Figure 2 is a plan view showlng one s de of the cover folded overand the other side extended. I
Figure 3 is a detail plan view of one of the folding tabs.
Figure 4 is a slmilar viewto Figure 3' showing one of the tabs in the position it occupies when the cover is secured to the book.
Figure 5 is a detail section on a line 2-2 on Figure 4.
Referring to the accompanying drawing forming part of the specificatlon and 1n which likereference numerals designate like parts throughout the several views thereof, 1 designates the sides of the cover which are provided with lines of indentation 2 on which the cover maybe folded. Each of the sides 1 is provided. with a number of fasteners 3 around which the cord 4 is wound and held tohold the cover in the adjusted position on the book; On opposite ends of the cover is an approximately V-shaped tab 5.formed by cutting the cover inwardly on an incline. Each of these tabs 5 are folded back and held for part'of their distance by stitches 6 or in any other suit able manner, which permits the sides of the tabs when folded back in position shown in Figure 4, to extend over the edge of the portion out of which they are out, thereby preventing the tabs from being pulled out NT orFicr-z.
when folded under the book as well as pre venting their edges from being exposed. These tabs 5 may be moved back and forth I to accommodate size of book'to which the cover is to besecured. The tabs 5 project, under the folded edge of the sides '1. The cover is held in position on the book by the cord 1 which is wound around the fasteners 3. 3
Having thus what we claim is:
1. A sanitary, quick-detachable book cover comprising a blank having a side flap and top and bottom flaps, a friction disk secured at its center to eachof said flaps, the disks on the top and bottom flaps, when described our invention top and bottom edgesof the book boards,
being inset with respectto the disk on the side'flap, so that the three disks define an isosceles triangle, and a string, permanently fastened to the cover by means of one of the disks, frictionally engaging under the three disks in succession, whereby an inward pull is exerted on the side flap when the string is tightly stretched between the disks, the string, throughout its length, when in securingposition, resting on top of all three flaps. j
2. A sanitary-quick-detachable book cov-' er comprising a blank having a side flap and top and bottom flaps, externally projecting fasteningmeans secured to each of. said flaps, the, fastening means on the top and bottom flaps, when all. the flaps are folded over the side and top and bottom edges of the book boards, being inset with respect to the said fastening means on the side flap, so that the three fastening members define a triangle, said fastening members being adapted to cooperate with a and' top andbottom flaps, fi'icfiion disk secured at itscenter to each 0f said flaps, the diskson the top and bottom flaps, when all the flapsere folded over the side and top and bottom edges ofthe book boards, being inset- With respect to the disk onthe side flap, so ihat the three disks define a bris angle the sa iid disks being a jdaptedito be string, wherebygan'inward pull is exerted stretched between the disks. V In vtestimony whereof We aflix our tin-es. ADACOLEMAN. ISADORE, n, COLEMAN.
