Description

March 10, 1942. THOMAS 2,275,927
PAPER FASTEN ER Filed June 7, 1941 Patented Mar. 10, 1942 mm STATES PATENT OFFICE PAPER FASTENER Joseph F. Thomas, Jefferson City, Mo.
Application June 7, 1941, Serial No. 397,119
4 Claims.
My invention relates to paper fasteners and has as one of the principal objects thereof the provision of a paper fastener so constructed and arranged whereby superimposed sheets or leaves may be conveniently attached together in a manner whereby said sheets may be readily turned for perusal.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device of the foregoing described character which is so constructed and arranged whereby to preclude a material increase in the thickness of a stack of sheets when connected together by means of my invention.
An important object of my invention is to provide a device of the character described which is simple in construction, durable in use, efficient in operation and economical in manufacture.
With the above and other objects in view, as will hereinafter appear, the invention consists in the combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, from which the several features of the invention and the advantages attained thereby will be readily understood by those skilled in the art.
Referring to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a plurality of superimposed sheets of paper connected together by my invention.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 but illustrating the topmost sheet in extended position.
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 1 but illustrating another sheet in a different extended position.
Figure 4 is a detail sectional view taken on the plane of the line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a plane view of my invention.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of my invention in folded position.
As illustrated in the drawing, my novel fastener 5 is constructed of a strip or sheet of paper, fabric or other suitable flexible material and is formed with a substantially triangular-shaped body portion 6 having its right-angularly disposed edges fashioned With coextending and relatively narrow flaps 1, the latter being disposed on opposite sides of the body portion. The faces of the flaps 1, adjacent the body portion 6, are provided with adhesive material 8, for instance, glue or the like whereby to secure coincident corners of a pair of sheets of paper 9 together with pair as clearly illustrated in Figure 4 of the drawing.
Obviously, the use of additional fasteners permits a like number of sheets to be secured to said first mentioned sheets and in stacked relation therewith. It will be noted that the hinge lines at the jointure of the flaps with the body portion, constitute hinge means whereby the sheets of a stack may be successively operated to extended positions as illustrated in Figures 2 and 3 of the drawing.
It is obvious that the invention is notconfined to the herein described use therefor as it may be utilized for any purpose to which it is adaptable. It is therefore to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific construction as illustrated and described as the same is only illustrative of the principles of operation, which are capable of extended application in various forms, and that the invention comprehends all construction within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A paper fastener fashioned with a body portion having a pair of angularly extending edges formed with coextending flaps overlying opposite sides of said body portion and with said flaps connected to coincident corners of a pair of sheets respectively disposed one on each side of said body portion thereby permitting one sheet to be hinged away from the other on either a vertical or horizontal axis.
2. Hinge means for securing a plurality of sheets together in stacked relation and comprising a plurality of hinges each formed with a body portion having a pair of adjacent angularly extending edges formed with coextending flaps overlying opposite sides of said body portion and with said flaps connected to coincident corners of adjacent sheets respectively disposed on opposite sides of each body portion, whereby the sheets may be successively turned about either a vertical or horizontal axis.
3. A paper fastener fashioned with a triangular body portion having its right angularly extending edges formed with coextending flaps overlying opposite sides of said body portion and with the faces of said flaps adjacent said body portion being provided with adhesive material connecting said flaps to opposite marginal spaces of coincident corners of successive stacked sheets, said sheets being respectively disposed one on each side of said body portion, whereby the sheets the body portion 6 being interposed between said are hingedly connected, thereby permitting said sheets to be turned about either a vertical or horizontal axis.
4. Hinge means for securing a plurality of sheets together in stacked relation and comprising a plurality of hinges each fashioned with a triangular body portion having its right angularly extending edges formed with coextending flaps overlying opposite sides of said body portion and with the faces of said flaps adjacent JOSEPH F. THOMAS.
