AMUSEMENT DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 21,1913.
Application filed April 10, 1913. Serial No. 760,125.
To all whom it may concern: v
Be it known that I, CLARK G. vVIL'rz, a citizen of the United States, residing at 123a Glenlake avenue, in the city of Chicago, Cook county, Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Amusement Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The device is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which;
Figure 1 is a view in perspective. Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation.
As shown in said drawings the device comprises a square board or stiff member 4 which is divided by perpendicular lines into four squares or quarters. In each square is painted or drawn a picture or design which may be placed directly upon the surface of the board; or the board may be covered with a smooth surface of cloth, paper or other material and the illustrations made upon such surface. Four hinged panels, similarly made of stiifpasteboard, cardboard or other suitable material are indicated at 6, 6 and each of these is also square and slightly smaller than one of the squares into which the large board 4: is divided, so that the four panels can be arranged to substantially cover the large square. Each of them is hinged to the back-board 4 along its margin which is adjacent to the next succeeding panel when the quarters are numbered in consecutive order, beginning with one of them and proceeding in a circle about the center of the large square. The means of hinging the panels, as here shown, comprises flexible strips 8 of cloth or other suitable material which are glued or pasted to the margins of the small panels, and to the backboard 4 along its perpendicular dividing lines. These strips are made wide Washington, D. 0.
enough so that two panels mayover-lap as indicated in Fig. 2where one of the panels is shown partly folded down upon another. The four panels may be smoothly covered on both sides with paper or cloth in the same manner as the surface of the back-board 4:, and on both sides of the panels are arranged illustrations corresponding to those in the four quarters of the large square 4;
It is evident that by folding the panels over in different relations to each other and to the backboard 1 many variations and permutations of the illustrations may be made.
I claim as my invention:
1. In an amusement device, a flat square member divided by perpendicular lines into four quarters, and four hinged panels, each panel being hinged atone edge along one of such perpendicular lines.
2. In an amusement device, an illustrated background and four square hinged panels arranged together to cover such background, such panels being hinged in pairs along intersecting lines and each panel being adapted to fold over such background or over another panel.
3. In an amusement device, a flat surface forming an illustrated background and divided by intersecting lines into smaller surfaces, and hinged panels of substantially the same shape and size as such smaller surfaces, each panel being illustrated on both sides and hinged at one margin'along one of such intersecting lines.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses this 8th day of April, 1913.
' CLARK G. VVILTZ.
