1 Claim. 01. z-zsz This invention relates to novel and improved blousing clips for holding trouser legs bloused over boot tops.

The primary object of the invention is to provide more efiicient and comfortable devices of the kind indicated which are invisible when properly applied, hold the trouser legs more securely and neatly around boot tops without circulation constrictions of the legs of the wearer, which can be left on the boot tops when the trousers are separated from the boots and taken oif the wearer, and which make a strong positive but releasable holding grip on the boot tops while holding the trouser legs securely in place, but in a manner to be easily releasable in an emergency.

Another object of'the invention is to provide simple and light-weight devices of the character indicated above which can be made in rugged, serviceable, and well-finished forms, at relatively low cost.

Other important objects and advantageous features of the invention will be apparent from the following description and the accompanying drawings, wherein, for purposes of illustration only, a specific form of the invention is set forth in detail.

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a trouser leg bloused over a boot top and secured in place by means of clips, shown in phantom lines, in accordance with the present invention;

Referring in detail to the drawings, wherein like numerals designate like parts throughout the several views, the illustrated clips, generally designated 10, two of which are used for each trouser leg, comprise preferably rectangular vertical base plates .12, of substantial rigidity, which can be of metal or plastic material, and have free upper horizontal edges 14. Formed on and extending along the lower edges of the base plate 12 are laterally outwardly and downwardly angled flanges 16 which have free horizontal lower edges 18. The flanges are substantially shorter or narrower than the plates 12 and are preferably convex-concave in cross section, and reach outwardly from the outer sides 19 of the plates.

Mounted on the base plates 12 are spring wire clamps 20 which comprise U-shapes 22 having horizontal bight portions 24 on whose ends are upstanding upwardly diverging legs 26 which merge into bends 28 on their upper ends which eventuate in downwardly convergent straight arms 30. On their lower ends the arms 30 have laterally inwardly directed terminals 32. The clamps 20 are engaged over the upper edges 14 of the plates 12, with the arms '30 extending down along the outer sides 19 of the base plates and with the legs 26 extending down along the inner side 34 of the plates 12.

Extending between the legs 26 near the bight portions Patented May 16, 1961 24 are gripping plates 36 which are secured at their ends to the legs 26, as by means of rolled or clinched end portions 38 on the plates 36 which are circumposed on the legs. The plates 36 are indented to provide boot top gripping teeth 40 extending toward the base plates 12, and the base plates 12 are oppositely indented, in the area of the gripping plates 36 to provide boot top gripping teeth 42 extending toward the gripping plates 36. The terminals 32 on the lower ends of the arms 30 are securably engaged in openings 44 provided in the lower part of the base plates 12 whereby the clamps 20 are secured in place on the base plates.

The clips 10 are applied, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, by engaging the same over the upper edges 46 of the boot tops 48, at opposite sides thereof, with the legs 26 and the gripping plates 36 engaged with the inner surfaces of the boot tops and with the base plates 12 en gaged with the outer sides of the boot tops. The lower ends of the trouser legs 50 are then bloused in the usual way, so as to provide upward flights 52 within the legs 50 having folds 52 at their lower ends, in which are disposed rubber bands 54 which surround the boot tops below the upper edges 46. The folds and the rubber bands 54 enclosed therein are then placed under the free edges 18 of the flanges 16 and positioned upwardly in the spaces between the flanges 16 and related sides of the boot tops 48, with the bands 54 in contracted condition. This puts the lower edges 18 of the flanges 16 in valleys 56 formed in the trouser legs, so that the flanges then serve as stops preventing the trouser legs from riding up along the boot tops 48 and the legs of the wearer. In an emergency, a strong upward pull on the trouser legs 50 will pull the folds 52 and the rubber bands 54 from beneath the flanges 16 and release the trouser legs without damage thereto, or to the boot tops 48, onto the clips 10,, the pull required for the release of the trouser legs 50 being substantially greater than that ordinarily occurring when the wearer sits down and the trouser legs are thereby run upon the wearers legs, relative to the boot tops 48. 7

Although there has been shown and described herein a preferred form of the invention, it is to be understood that the invention is not necessarily confined thereto, and that any change or changes in the structure of and in the relative arrangements of components thereof are contemplated as being within the scope of the invention as defined by the claim appended hereto.

What is claimed is:

In combination, a boot top having an upper edge, a trouser leg having a lower end portion folded to define a fold and an upstanding flight within the leg, a rubber band engaged in the fold and surrounding the boot top, a clip engaged over the upper edge of the boot top, said clip having a flange having a free lower edge, the fold and the rubber being engaged under the lower edge of the flange and positioned up in the space between the flange and the boot top so as to define a valley in which the free lower edge of the flange is downwardly engaged, said clip comprising a vertical base plate engaged with the outer side of the boot top, said flange being on the lower end of the base plate and extending laterally outwardly and downwardly therefrom, and a spring clamp mounted on the base plate having legs biased into engagement with the inner side of the boot top.
