PATENT OFFICE.
HAROLD N. HANOLD, OF STANDISH, MAINE.
BLANKET-ROLL SUPPORT.
Application filed June 26, 1923. Serial No. 647,863.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HAROLD N. HANOLD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Standish, in the county of Cumberland and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blanket-Roll Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pack or blanket roll straps and is. so designed that when in use a blanket will be held in a neat, tight roll which may be slung across the carriers shoulder without danger of its becoming loose or falling open and further is light in weight, strong, durable and inexpensive to manufacture.
The device comprises a strap, preferably of woven fabric, of the same o greater length than a blanket, having a buckle on one end and provided intermediate its ends with a series of spaced short straps, connected at one of their ends to the main strap and each provided with a buckle at the connecting point.
In use, the blanket is first rolled crosswise so that the finished roll is the full length of the blanket, the strap is then laid lengthwise of the roll with the small straps all extending laterally in one direction, and beneath the roll. The free ends of the small straps are then brought up and around the roll, passed through the buckles and drawn tight. The roll is now ready to be slung over the shoulder with the ends hanging down, and the main strap next to the body of the wearer, when the ends of the main strap may be buckled together thus securing the pack in position.
The invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming partof this application, with the understanding that the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawings, but may be changed and modified so long as such changes and modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the following claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 shows the device as in use.
Fig. 2 is a view of the device in a position to receive a blanket roll.
Fig. 3 indicates a transverse sectional view of a blanket roll taken immediately above a binding strap.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, where like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawings, 1 indicates the primary strap having a buckle, preferably of the automatically engaging type, at one end. The buckle 2, is secured to the end of the strap bypassing the end through the central cross bar of the buckle and turning it back upon itself whereupon rivets 3 are passed to permanently connect the parts together. The opposite end of the strap is encased in the usual metal shield 4:,to prevent the same from raveling.
Spaced along the body of the strap 1 are a series of secondary short straps 5, across which is shown in dotted position a blanket roll 6. These straps each have one of their ends passed under and turned back upon the strap 1 where they are secured by rivets 7. In each of the loops thus formed a buckle 8 is held.
Metal protecting tabs 9, are also secured to the free ends of each of these straps.
As shown the secondary straps are connected to the primary strap so that when laid out they all extend laterally of the same side with the buckles on the opposite 51C e.
While any material may be used in the manufacture of this device woven fabric belting is preferred because of its lightness and great strength and durability.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is A pack strap comprising, a primary strap of substantial length, a buckle connected to said primary strap at one end thereof, a series of spaced secondary straps, each of said secondary straps in proximity to its inner end extending transversely of the outer face of the primary strap and having its inner end terminal portions opposing the outer side edge of and extending transversely of the inner face of the primary strap, means for securing the inner terminal portion of said secondary strap to both faces of the pri- 5 her secured against said edge by each of the said loops, each of sa d secondary straps being adapted to engage the buckle at'its looped end to secure a blanket roll against said primary strap, and one end of said primary strap adapted to engage the buckle at its other end after a roll has been secured V thereto, to connect the ends of the roll when the same isoi-n position upon a' carriers body;
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature hereto. p r v HAROLD N. HANOLD. I
