To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, Answer OSTERHOLT, a subject of the King of Denmark, residing at Atlantic Highlands, in the county of Monmouth and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improve-- ments in Shoe-Lace-Fastening Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in shoe lace fastening devices, and has for its principal object to provide a means whereby the free end of a shoe lace may be fastened after the shoe lace has been drawn together, in such a manner as to prevent the unfastening of the shoe lace, and without having to tie the free ends of the shoe lace as is now ordinarily done.

A further object of the invention is to provide a shoe lace fastening device of the above mentioned character, which may" be readily and easily placed in position for receiving the free end of the shoe lace, and will also present an ornamental appearance, when the device is in use on the shoe.

A further object of the invention is to provide a shoe lace fastening device of the above mentioned character, which will save considerable time and labor in securing the free ends of the shoe lace, and will further be simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable.

Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.

In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a shoe showing my device, in position thereon.

Figure 2 is a sectional view, taken approximately on the line 22 of Figure 1, and

Figure 3 is a detail perspective view of the shoe lace fastening device.

In the drawing, wherein, for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates generally my improved shoe lace fastening device, and the same comprises the arcuate shaped body member 2. The device may be constructed of any suitable material, such as hard rubber, celluloid, or the like, and I do not wish to limit myself to the particular kind of material to be used. Pro

vided in the body member 2, adjacent the ends thereof are the vertically extending openings 3 and A respectively, the same being inclined upwardly, in the manner as clearly illustrated in Figures 2 and 3. The body member 2 is further provided with a central vertically extending opening 5, and the purpose thereof will be presently described.

The shoe lace fastening device is placed in position on the upper front portion of the shoe A, in such a manner as to have the openings 3 and 4 disposed over the uppermost openings or eyelets B and C respectively, provided on the upper portion of the shoe and through which are adapted to extend the terminals or free ends of the shoe lace B. Ordinarily, after the shoe lace has been passed through the several eyelets or openings provided in the forward portion of the shoe, the free ends are drawn tightly together, and are then tied into a how. The provision of a shoe lace fastening device of the character shown and above described, will obviate the necessity of having to tie the ends of the shoe lace, and when in use, the free ends of the shoe lace will pass through the openings 3 and 4:, and will then be drawn over the top of the device, and the free' ends will be then inserted into the vertical opening 5 arranged centrally of the body member 2, whereby the free ends of the shoe lace will be tucked between the tongue of the shoe and the transverse portion of the shoe lace. This will securely hold the free ends of the shoe lace from accidentally becoming unfastened, and furthermore will not cause any disc0mfort to the wearer. A shoe lace fastening device of the above mentioned character will also provide an ornament for-the front of the shoe, and whenever it is necessary to unfasten the shoe lace, the device may be readily moved upwardly, so that a loop will be formed in the free end portions of the lace, for enabling the person to grasp the free ends and remove the same from engagement with the body.

A device of the above mentioned character may be manufactured at a very low cost, and will further be strong and durable.

While I have shown'the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape, and arrangement of parts, may be resorted to, Without departing from the spirit of the invention and thescope of the appended claim.

A shoe lace fastening device comprising an arcuate shaped body member adapted to extend over the openings provided in the upper of a shoe, said arcuate member hav- 10 in dia onall dis osed vertical 0 enin 's arranged adjacent the ends thereof for registering With the aforementioned openings, to receive the terminals of a shoe lace, said arcuate member being provided with a central vertical opening, through which the terminals ofthe shoe lace extend after passing through the diagonally disposed openings.
