NECKTIE APPLIANCE.
Application filed October 8, 1920. Serial No. 415,598.
To @.72 whom, t may concern.: y
Re it known that l, ViTiLnLiirBnnNr-mnn Herrn, a citizen .of the United States, residing at 318 Fair Oaks St., .San Francisco, in the county of San Francisjswa and State of (flalifornia, have invented a new and useful Necktie Appliance, of which the following is a specification.
T he present invention relates to improvements innecktie clasps and has particular reference to a device of this character which wili make it unnecessary to forni a knot in the tie, will provide a unique and. fanciful decoration and permit of quickand efficacious arrangement of a. tie so that the saine has the appearance of being knotted.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide simple and inexpensive clasp of the character described which comprises a decorative body port-ion having an opening therein to reveal a portion of the tie, in such manner that the same will appear to be knotted, the said device including a band with an opening in one side to facilitate an efficacious mounting of the device upon the tie, being further provided with novel and e'ective inea-ns for holding it in place between the turndown folds of a collar.
The invention possesses other advantages and features some of which, with the foregoing will be set forth at length in the following description where 1' shall outline in full that forni of *he invention which I have selected for illustration in the drawings accompanying and forming a part of the present specification. In said drawings I have shown one forni of the construction of my invention, but it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to such form since the invention as expressed in the claims may be embodied in a plurality of forms.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. l is a front elevation of the device of my invention showingit :is it would ap,- pear when in use.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the clasp.
Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section.
Fig. e is a top plan view of a blankof which the device is formed, showing it as it would appear before being bent into shape.
Fig. 5 is a cross sectional view on line 5 5of Fig. l.
Referring to the embodiment of the inyvention as shown in the accompanying several views, l designates the body portion of the clasp of-my invention, which body portion is provided with an opening Q there- 1n, preferably of such a shape'tliat portions of a necktie 3 revealed through the opening will simulate a neoktie knot of the four-inhand type. -Howeven the opening may be per portion of the body being of less width than the sides or flanges 6. At the upper end ofthe body portion there is a downwardly and rearwardly projecting prong 7,
whereby the same may be caught in the necktie so as to hold the clasp in place.l As shown in Fig. 4, the device may be stamped from a single blank of metal and then bent into a fancy form as shown in Figs. l, 2, 3 and 5. The metal of which the device is formed may be gold, silver, platinum, or any other material and preferably is engraved in decorative figures so that the devicewill be highly ornamental as to appearance.. p
To apply the clasp, the necktie or cravat is placed in the colla-r -in the customary manner and the ends projecting out of the collar are folded over one another or overlapped as often as required to form a knot or is otherwise overlapped so that a knot may be simulated. After this is done the hanging ends of the tie are forced into the band 4e thru the opening 5 in the rear of the band, so that the tie is completely surrounded by the band with the flanges or side portions 6 embracing the side edges of the tie. The device is then forced upwardly so as to embrace the wrapped or folded portions in the space between. the folds of the collar so that such folded or'wiapped portion will be revealed within the opening andthe flanges or sides 6 will engage the opposite sides of the folded or wrapped portion. To
hold the device in place the prong 'T isl vcaused. to engage into the folded or wrapped portion.
To remove the clasp it is only necessaryv to lift upwardly so as to disengage the prong and then pull the ends of the tie out thru the opening 5. By smoothing outthe exposed portion ot the tie within the com lines of the opening 2, a neat .knot will be Simulated, the etfect being as though the ordinary knot were surrounded by the traine of the general outline of the knot.
Although I prefer to use the device Without tying the ordinary knot7 it can be equally Well used in connection With a tie in which such knot has already been formed, although the same ettect may be obtained as to appearance ot' the tie Without torming the ordinary knot. One of the principal features ot the invention is the 'torniation thereof which enhances the appearance ot the tie and at the same time permits of an easy and efficacious attachment and removal ot the clasp relative to the tie.
I claim:
l. neck-tie appliance comprising; a body portion having` an opening therein thru which a portion ot a necktie disposed behind the body portion is revealed with the appearance oi a fonr-in-hand knot and a band at the lower end ot the body portion and haring' an opening' in the rear Side thereof to permit ot the insertion of the neektie into the band.
2. A neck-tie appliance comprising` a body portion having an opening` therein thru which a portion of a necktie disposed berafraee/i hind the bodj,Y portion is rexeaied with the appearance ot a tour-in-hand knot, a split band at the lower end ot the body portion adapted to receive the necktie and a downwardly and rearwardly projecting prong on they upper edge ot the body portion.
3. neck-tie appliance comprising a body portion adapted to lie over the necktie adjacent to the folds ot a` collar and having an opening therein thru which a portion of the tie is revealed and a band-like portion on the lower extremity ot said body, which band open on one eine and adapted to nearly surround a necktie7 said body portion beingr tapered from its upper to its lower end.
et. A neck-tie appliance comprising` a body portion ot the general appearance of a tourin-hand knot and adapted to overlie a neckt-ie, said body portion having an openingtherein oi the Same general appearance as a tour-inehand knot, thru which 'the tie is revealed in the appearance of a knot, portieneJ on Said body portion extendingrearwardly therefrom and adapted to embrace the tie and a downwardly and rearwardly projecting prongI on the upper end of said portion adapted to extend into the tie to hold the body portion in place.
