Description

1966 c. ESPINO 3,284,807
NECKTIE HAVING A PREFORMED KNOT Filed Oct. 19, 1965 INVENTOR. CAP; 05 ESP/NO United States Patent ()1 3,284,807 NECKTIE HAVING A PREFORMED KNUT Carlos Espino, 2308 Westridge Road, Los Angeles, Calif. Filed Oct. 19, 1965, Ser. No. 497,656 1 Claim. (Cl. 2153) This invention relates to a tie and more particularly to a device having and including a clip adapted to be attached to a shirt collar and having a preformed knot expertly tied thereon and having a clutch adapted to receive a pin carried by a replaceable tie so that any desired interchangeable tie may be used with the basic knot.
While there have been proposed other arrangements having a form or clip for a permanent knot and in which provision is made for the use of replaceable ties with such knots, this invention is particularly characterized by the fact that a clutch is carried by the clip and a pin is carried by the tie Which cooperate to assemble the finished assembly.
It is therefore the primary object of this invention to provide a replaceable tie of the type described in which the tie flaps are aflixed to the knot bearing clip by a pin and clutch attachment for ready attachment or replacement.
These and other objects, features and advantages will be apparent from the annexed specification in which:
FIGURE 1 is a front view of a device embodying the present invention;
FIGURE 2 is a side view thereof partly in vertical section;
FIGURE 3 is a rear perspective elevation of the clip; and
FIGURE 4 is a fragmentary front view, with parts broken away, of the flaps and associated pin.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings and particularly to FIGURE 3, the clip of this invention is shown as comprising an arcuate section 9, a laterally extending portion 10, a depending portion 11 joining an upstanding portion 12 which in turn joins a downwardly depending hook 13. A clutch 14 is aflixed to the member 12 and is of the type which releasably grips a pin which is inserted into a hole formed in the center of the clutch in the well-known manner.
A bow or knot 14A is formed of a separate piece of fabric and has a front portion 15 the ends of which are wrapped around, passed behind hook 13, as at 16 and 17, and at least one of which 18 passes up and over the assembly and down behind front portion 15 as in a conventional four-in-hand tie.
The flaps 20 and 21 of the tie are of one piece and adjacent the top thereof are wrapped as shown in FIG- URE 4, so that one edge 22 underlies the other edge 23.
A pin 24 having a head 25 is provided with the head engaging the inner side of edge 22 and the pin 24 extending through edges 22 and 23, holes 26 and 27 in the clip aligned with the aforementioned hole in clutch 14 for releasable engagement therein.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that the present invention consists of a knot portion formed on the clip which also carries the clutch 14 which portion may be attached to a collar of a shirt and has a preformed fabric knot tied thereon. It further includes the flap portion with its associated pin 24. As shown in FIG- URE 2 the upper end of the flap portion extends under the front portion 15 of the knot and gives the appearance of a conventional tie, however due to the releasable connection various flaps and pins may be used with the single knot and clip, thus rendering the device capable of presenting a plurality of dilferent flap portions useable with the single knot portion.
While there has been described what is at present considered a preferred embodiment of the present invention, it will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications can be made therein without departing from the essence of the invention and it is intended to cover herein all such changes and modifications as come within the true spirit and scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
A combination tie clip, tie knot and removable tie flaps comprising: a clip member having a front plate and a spaced, downwardly appending hook member; a fabric member wrapped around said front plate and between said front plate and said hook member with one edge thereof extending below the front plate and covering the front plate to form a knot; a clutch member having an opening adapted to removably receive a pin, said clutch member being afiixed to said clip member; tie flaps formed of a single piece of fabric having an upper fold, said folded flaps at their upper end being again folded into overlapping relationship and a pin extending through the overlapping flaps and releasably engageable in said opening in said clutch, the upper end of said flaps, when in position, underlying said one edge of said fabric member of said knot and adjacent said front plate; said clip member including a member offset rearwardly from said front plate; said clutch being mounted on said offset member and said offset member being provided with an opening aligned with said opening in said clutch.
