An object of the invention is to provide an improved construction in a necktie of the fourin-hand type which will automatically position the necktie when placed in a collar disposed about a weareris neck before tying so that the tying of the necktie will form the correct knot size and even necktie ends after each tying of the necktie.

Another object of the invention is to provide indicating means on the under surface of a necktie of the four-in-hand type, which may be of any desired shape or material, and applied in any desired manner, whereby, when the necktie is inserted within a collar with the indicating means equally spaced from the front of the collar, the tying of the necktie in the usual manner will produce a perfect knot and even ends.

A further object of the invention is to provide an indicating means upon the under surface or back of a necktie of the four-in-hand type which will be hidden at all times during the wearing of the necktie, whereby the tying of a perfect knot with even necktie ends is always assured.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved necktie position-indicating means upon the back or reverse surface of a necktie of the four-in-hand type which will be highly efficient in operation, and relatively inexpensive to manufacture and produce.

Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.

In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application,

Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a necktie shown inserted within a collar and the back surface of the necktie turned toward the front to show the positioning dots or means onthe back surface thereof;

Figure 2 is a view similar to that shown in Figure 1, but with the necktie shown in the process of being tied;

Figure 3 is a view similar to that shown in Figure 2, but with the necktie fully tied forming a perfect knot and even depending ends;

Figure 4 is a perspective view of a necktie of the four-in-hand type with its back surface turned to show the positionng dots or means incorporated thereon; and

Figure 5 is a Sectional View taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 4.

Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawing to designate corresponding parts.

In carrying out the invention, there is provided a necktie of the four-in-hand type having a body generally designated by the reference numeral I, being of tubular shape in cross section, and in which a lining 2 is suitably secured.

Position indicating means designated by the reference numerals 3 and 4 will be provided upon the back or reverse side of the necktie body l, as clearly illustrated in Figures 1, 4 and 5, the same being of any desired shape and of any desired material, and attached to the necktie body in any desired manner.

It is contemplated that the position indicating means 3 and 4 may comprise dots as shown in the drawings, which may be sewed or otherwise attached to the back surface of the necktie in spaced relation one from the other. I-Iowever, in addition to the dots, it is intended that other shapes of marks, whether a square, diamond shape, circle, or any other shape of mark desired may be used, and the mark may be made of felt, cotton, fiber, thread, or any other desired material. It is further intended that the mark may be sewed to the necktie, fastened, stapled, woven, or put on the necktie by any other means, or by means of a pin, tags, or by any other fastening or applying device or mechanism.

In operation, the person who is to wear the necktie will insert it within the collar 5, as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings, so that the dots or position indicating means will be equidistant from the front opening of the collar 5, after which the necktie will be tied in the usual and customary manner, as indicated in Figure 2.

When the necktie has been completely tied, as indicated in Figure 3 of the drawings, a perfect knot 6 will have been formed and the ends 1 and 8 of the necktie l will be of even length, the same perfect tying of the necktie being assured every time the necktie is tied, due to the provision and position of the position indicating dots or means.

From the foregoing desription, it will be apparent that there has been devised and provided a highly efficient form of position-indicating means for disposition upon the back or under surface of a necktie which will insure the perfect formation of the knot and even ends every time the necktie is tied.

While the preferred embodiment of the in- ,stant invention has been illustrated and detie is inserted Within a collar to faciltate the' formation by the sense of feel of a perfect knotand co-extensive ends, said physically detectable means comprising a pair of co-extensve raised portions formed on the back surface of the tie and disposed with relation to each other and to the ends of the tie in such position that the ends of the tie are in correct positioning for a single neck size.
