M. FUBER LOCK WITH SEVERAL TUMBLERS Filed May 26, 1923 i F6403! Jill-r1 zz I I:- L%

Patented Jan. 5, 1926.
UNITED STATES MAXIMILIAN Ethane, or LUBECK, GERMANY.
LOCK WITH SEVERAL TUIVIBLERS.
I Application filed May 26, 1923. Serial No. 641,652.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MAXIMILIAN FiiBER, a citizen of the German Republic, residing at 24 Schutzenstrasse, Lubeck, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Locks with Several Tumblers, for which I have filed an application for patent in Germany on the 16th of November, 1922, and of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a lock with several tumblers submitted to the action of a common tumbler spring. The novelty consists in that the lowermost tumbler is oscillable around a fixed pivot pin, the other tumblers being each pivotally connected with the next lower tumbler, the spring acting upon the uppermost tumbler. The
useful lever arm of the several tumblers be comes longer in accordance with the decrease of the direct power transmission exerted upon the tumblers by the spring so that the power of the spring is uniformly distributed on all tumblers. I
In order that the invention may be clearly understood, I shall hereinafter proceed to describe the same with reference to the form of construction shown by way of example on the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a rear elevation of the improved 3v lock.
Fig. 2 is an end view of the same, and
Fig. 3 is a horizontal cross section.
The bolt .a is movably mounted on bolts 6 and a fixed on the key plate It and guided in the end plate 72. of the casing. The tumblers (l, d, d arranged at the side of the bolt a may be of any desired number and they are in dependent relation to the steps of the key bit. On bolt a the tumbler pin is fixed which projects into the stepped windows d of the tumblers. The lowermost tumbler d is pivotally mounted on the bolt 6, the tumbler d is pivotally mounted on the pin 0 fixed on the tumbler d and the tumbler (Z is pivotally mounted on the pin 7 fixed on tumbler d, any additional tumblers being pivotally arranged on the preceeding tumbler. Each upper tumbler is pivotally connected with the next lower tumbler, the lowermost tumbler being however ivotally mounted on a fixed pivot pin.
The tumbler spring 9, which may be of any convenient kind and which is common to all the tumblers, is attached with one end at a" to the uppermost tumbler d and with the other end to a'hook 11 of the key plate k. r
The spring 9 bears against the hook z and exerts a direct pressure on the tumbler 03* so that the edge of aperture d of this tumbler is strongly pressed on the pin 70. As
the tumbler d is connected with the tumv bler (Z and this tumbler is again connected with the tumbler d the pressure of spring g is also transferred to the tumblers d and d.
The power of spring of the tumbler spring 9 1S uniformly distributed upon all tumblers.
By the different shapes of the key bit the several tumblers are raised for different heights in opposition to the pressure of the spring g. The point at which the spring 9 presses on the tumbler (Z is situated at i, slightly in front of pin f around which the tumbler d pivots. As the tumbler d on which the action of spring 9 is directly exerted the useful lever arm w from the point of action 2" of the spring 9 to the fulcrum f is only very short, the useful lever arm y of tumbler d, and the useful lever arm .2 of tumbler (2 being longer so that the more the direct power transmission of the spring 9 upon the tumblers decreases the useful lever arm becomes the longer and a uniform action of the spring in all the tumblers is ensured.
The tumblers can be very thin so that a great number of tumblers may besuperposed and connected with one another without undue increase of the width of the look.
I claim 1. A look with several tumblers controlled by a common spring comprising in combination a key plate, a pivot pin fixed on said key plate at the inner end of the same, a
guide pin fixed on said key plate at about the middle of the same, a hook fixed on said key plate above said guide pin, a bolt guided on said pins, a set of tumblers on said bolt the lowermost of said tumblers being pivotally mounted at its inner end on said pivot pin and having in proximity to said pivot pin a pivot pin for the next following tumbler each following tumbler having a pivot pin for the succeeding tumbler, and a tumbler spring attached with one end to the uppermost tumbler and with the other end to said hook of the key plate.
2. A look with several tumblers controlled by a common spring comprising in combination a key plate, a pivot pin fixed on said key plate at the inner end of the same, a guide pin fixed on said key plate at about the middle of the same, a hook fixed on said key plate above said guide pin, a bolt guided on said pins, a set of tumblers on said bolt the lowermost of said tumblers being pivotally mounted at its inner end on said pivot pin and having in proximity to said pivot pin a pivot pin for the next following tumbler each following tumbler having a pivot pin for the succeeding tumbler, and a tumbler spring attached with one end to the uppermost tumbler and with the other end to said hook of the key plate, the useful lever arm of each tumbler becoming longer 15 the power of the spring is uniformly dis- 20 tributed uponall the tumblers.
In testimony whereof I affiX my signature.
MAXIMILIAN FUBER.
