ANTHONY ZABEMBA, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
NOTEBOOK CLIP.
Ap lication filed August 1, 1925. Serial 1%. 47,601.
To all 107mm may concern:
Be it known that I, Anrrtorrr ZAREMBA, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Notebook Clips, of which the following is a full, clear, and enact description.
My invention relates to improvements in note book clips, and it consists in the coinbinations, constructions, and arrangements herein described and claimed.
An object of my invention is to provide a note book clip of the character described which may be used for securing a note book from unintentional dislodgment from the pocket of the user.
A further object of my invention is to provide a note book clip of the character described in which means is provided for gripping the note book at the top or at the side thereof so as to accommodate the device to books of various proportions and sizes with respect to the size of the pocket of the user.
1 further object of my invention is to pro vide a note book clip of the character described consisting of but three parts, and which is extremely simple in construction as well as cheap to manufacture.
ther objects and advantages will appear in tl e following specification, and the novel features of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of an embodiment of my invention,
Figure 2 is a view along the line 2-2 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a sectional view along the line 3-3 of Figure 1, and
Figured is a top plan view of the note book clip secured to the side of a note book.
In carrying out my invention I make use of the ordinary type of note book having covers 1 and leaves 2, all of which are boun d together in any well known manner.
My improved note book clip consists of a body member 3 of resilient metal having a portion 1 thereof bent rearwardly parallel with the body member so as to form a pair of parallel gripping surfaces 5 between which one of the covers 1 of the book may be secured. hen the gripping portions 5 are employed, the clip is secured to the front edge of the cover, as shown in The portion has a part rearwardly and downwardly with so as to form parallel Figure 4-.
6 thereof bent parallel thereand adjacent gripping portions 7 be ween which the cover 1 of the book may be engaged by placing to 0 clip over the top edge of the cover as shown 1n Figures 1 and 2.
The body member 3 has a pair of forwardly extending parallel ears 8 formed in tegral therewith upon which ated gripping linger a spring actu- 9 is pivotally mounted by means of cars 10 formed integral with the finger 9 which outermost ends thereof proj openings in the ears 8.
A spring 12 bent at 13 at have stud shafts 11 at the ected through a point intermediate its length has its opposite ends in engagement with the body member 3 and the upper end of the finger 9. It will be noted that the finger 9 is turned over at 14: to more readily facilitate the engagement of the spring 12 therewith.
The cross sectional contour of the finger 9 is curved as shown in Figure 3, and the finger has: a pair of rounded tions 15 at the lowermost end are bent inwardly in a the cover 1 0f the book.
gripping porthereof which plane transverse to From the foregoing description of the various parts of the device,
thereof may be readily understood.
helg
the
the operation If the ht which may pocket of the does not extend for any appreof the pocket, gaged with the outer cover 1. of the book, and the gripping finger 9 is permitted to the spring 12 with the Figures 1 and 2.
engage by means of pocket as shown in If the book is an exceedingly tall one, it
will be necessary to engage the cover 1 with the gripping surfaces 5 at the outer edge of the book, as shown in Flgure 4, whereupon the finger 9 1s employed in the same manner as shown in Figure 1.
In order to more readily fa cilitate the engagement of the cover 1 with the gripping surfaces" 5 or 7 of the device, the parts one corner of 3 and 6, respectivel is bent outwardly as shown at 16 and 17, respectively.
Without these slightly bent would be a tendency for the portions there adjacent parts of the device to dig into the cover 1 as the device was inserted in place upon the cover.
I claim: lhe combination with a note book having 5 a cover, of a spring actuated gripping member, a body member associated with the gripping finger having an overlapped portion arranged for engaging with the horizontal edge of the note book when the gripping finger is in a vertical position, and having a further folded portion arranged for en gagement with the vertical edge of the note book when the gripping finger is in a vertical position.
ANTHONY ZAREMBA. I
