Clamping-devices. - Card-cases, paper-holders, writing-tablets, &c., of the type comprising a back-plate of thin metal, celluloid, &c., with the sides and one end inturned to retain paper slips, cards, &c., are provided with supplementary means for retaining the contents, located at the sides or ends so that the back-plate is left clear for use as a writing-base. To facilitate removal of the contents, the usual notch is provided in the free edge of the back-plate, and other notches may be formed in the inturned ends or sides. Fig. 2 shows a retaining-spring c riveted under the inturned edge b so that its free end bears upon the top of the contents; alternatively the spring may be riveted to the back-plate near one edge to bear under the contents, or may be attached so that it bears against the edges of the contents, either internally within the inturned edge, or externally as shown at q, Fig. 7, in which case a notch b<3> is cut in the edge. In other modifications, the spring is pivoted so that it can be swung over the contents or turned aside under the inturned edge; or the spring is attached to the inturned edge so that it is free to slide longitudinally; or a bent spring clip, fixed or pivoted, is used on the free edge of the back-plate; or upturned projections, forming fixed or pivoted end stops, are provided on the free edge of the backplate or the ends of the inturned sides.
