Description

UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
oonnnn w. BREIDENBAOH, or DAYTON, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT lN DOOR-CHECKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,478, dated November 3, 1874; application filed October 10,1874.
trates my invention.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding part-s.
A represents .the door. base. ion for preventing the concussion or slamming of the door. The holder consists of a stud, E, which is secured into or attached to the wall or base, so as to be permanently fixed B is the wall or thereto. F is a spring-catch, which is pivoted in the lateral branch G of the main stud E. The branch piece G is slotted to receive the catch. H is the pivot-pin. The back end I of this catch has a slot, J, through which passes a screw, K, which enters the side of the stud E. Around this screw is a spiral spring, L, which is confined between the stud and the catch, against which it bears with a O is the door-holder, and D isthe cush constant pressure to force the catch. against the head of the screw. When the door is opened and thrown back, it strikes the bevel end 0 of the catch and forces the latter back against the pressure of the spring at the other end. The catch acts as a spring-latch and catches onto the door, as seen in the drawing. All concussion of the door is prevented by the cushion D, which is :made of rubber, or similar soft and yielding substance, and fixed to the end of the stud E. The slotted hole J allowsthe back end of this catch to move without binding. The power of the spring is simply sufficient to keep the catch in vposition for acting upon the door.
With this device a door may be swung back without noise and held in the most secure and perfect manner.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A door-holder consisting. of the' stud E, branch G, catch F, fulcrum-pin H, screw K, spiral spring L, and slot J arranged to operate as and for the purposes described.
