vMy ,improvement consists in attaching to the-patented invention, above referred to, a devieefor locking the knob, so as'to secure tl.; ts in fastening the door, o r leaving it free 'o open asdesired.

In the'use of my invention it is often desir- Y ableto have the bolt at the bottom of the door extend further than-the one at thetop. I accomplish this in my improvement, by making he le'ver-inge'B with one arm the longer, as shown'at H inthe accompanying drawing. This arm, connected to the bolt by the rod U, admits of its extending `farther down in the -operation. When this longextension is notY desired the rod C may be attached to the arm ofthe ange, eqnidistant` from the center, as shown at H inthe drawing, and then both belts extend alike. Y

, To get a more perfect operation in my inflyentionl construct the spindle L similar to ;ftlicsez commonly used for knob-latches, except tha that portion of it extending through made round and turns in the cylinder 'ir-Vop'era'ting, as shown in the drawing, Fig. 3, to which any knob in common use may 'Y be Aitted in the ordinary way.

By my improvement I fastenv the bolts, in operating them, by placing, at the opposite :ff-ggd pf thespindle from the knob and fastened to the Wood inside, a metal plate, having a square opening in the center to admit that end ofthe spindle to fasten or secure the' bolts, as shown at I and E. And tocause the spindle to operate the bolts in the way above indicated, I provide a wire spiral spring suici ently strong between the ange and the wood `ot` the door, toward the knob, as shown at S, in the drawing.
