IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR-BOLTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 162,01 7, dated April 13, 1875; application led December 7, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. BIRGE, of Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut, have invented an Improved Door-Bolt, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, where- Figure 1 is a View of the same in longitudinal section. Fig. 2 is an outer or llat View of the same.
This invention consists in a bolt which may be locked in its positions ot' adjustment, the locking parts being concealed from view and operated by a presser-pin, which, apparently, forms a portion ot' another part of the device. The letter a denotes the Wood upon Which the bolt is set; b, the metallic base-plate ofthe bolt; c, the bolt itself, sliding in clamp-guides d and c. To the under or back side of plate b is attached, by rivet j' or the like, a concealed spring, g, denoted by dotted line in Fig. 2. This spring bears the stud or spur z' projecting through corresponding` orice in plate b, and bearing against the under side of bolt o.
When the bolt is drawn back to unlock the door, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the spurt' snaps into mortise l and holds `the bolt unlocked. When the bolt is pushed forward to lock the door, the spur i snaps into the mortise t and holds the bolt locked. The bolt isunlockedthat is, released from grasp of spur by pressin gdown upon thepresser-pi n 0,Which comes up at one side of clamp-guide e, and, apparently forms a part thereof. The Wooden part al is al'ipropriately mortised to permit the play ot' the concealed spring, as shown in Fig. l, and by dotted line s in Fig 2.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the plate b, guides d e, and bolt c, locked in position by the concealed spring g, bearing the spur t', and operated by the presser-pin o, all substantially as shown and described.
