To all whom it may concern:

Be it: known that I, ABE M. EUSTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pineville, in the county of Bell and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stocking Supporters, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a new and improved stocking supporter, designed primarily for use in connection with mens and childrens hose, and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a stocking having as a permanent part thereof, at its upper portion, means whereby such upper portion will grip the leg of the wearer to support and maintain the stock- 'ing extended in a comfortable manner and without any undue tightness or other inconvenience to the wearer.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it' is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended. r

Figure 2 is a-section on line 2-2, Figure 1. Figure 3-is a section on line 33, Figure 2. Referring to Figures 1,: 2 and 3 of the drawings, 1 denotes-the foot and 2 the leg portion of a stocking. The upper terminal part of the-leg portion 2, which is indicated at 3, is reinforced and bent upon itself inv wardly, as at 1, to provide-a pocket 5. The

bent portion 1 is fixedly secured in position by a row of stitching 6. The upper terminal portion 3 is furthermore cut away to form an opening 7 to provide an entrance to the pocket 5, The side walls of the opening 7 are reinforced, as at 8, and such reinforcement is provided by bending outwardly the material of the upper terminal portion 3 and securing the bent portions in position'by a with the means hereinbefore referred to will row ofstitching.

Slidably mounted in the pocket 5 is a retaining strap 9, formed of any suitable ma terial, preferably elastic, and said strap 9 from the terminal portion 3 a greater distance than the latter.

The projecting portion 10 vof the strap 9, is provided at a point adjacent its free terminus with. a stop 12, as shown consisting of a circular button or disk of a diameter greater than the height of the opening 7 so that the stop 12 can not completely enter the pocket 7 and in connection with one of the ends walls 8 of the opening 7 limits the shiftingmovement of the strap 9 in one direction. The stop 12 is secured by any suitable means, preferably by stitching 13, to the inner face of the projecting portion 10.

The projecting portion 10,-at its free end,

is bent against its lnner face, as at 14, and

is bent inwardly upon itself, as at 16, and

saidb'ent portion is secured to the strap 9 ,in any suitable manner and has connected therewith a snap fastener member 17.

The outer face, at the top of the terminal portion 3, has secured thereto a series of spaced snap fastener members. 18, 19 and 20. The member 18 is arranged in proximity to that side wall of the opening of which the projecting portion 11 of the strap overlaps. The snap fastener member 17 engages with the member 18 for the purpose of anchoring the projecting portion 11 of the strap 9, exteriorly of the pocket 5. The snap fastener member 15 selectively engages with the members 19 and 20 for the purpose of tightly securing the upper terminal' portion 3 to the leg of the wearer for the purpose of maintaining or supporting the stocking in extended position. AL though the end terminal-portion 3 is shown provided with three snap fastener members, yet this showing is made by way of example, as said terminal portion 3 can be provided witha greater or less number of snap fastener. members. v

The setting up of the stocking at the reinforced upper terminal portion thereof support or maintain the stocking when extended in a comfortable manner and will be free of undue tightness or other inconvenience to the wearer, and it is thought that the many advantages of a stocking support-. ing means as hereinbefore set forth, can be readily understood, and although the preferred embodimentsof the invention areas illustrated and described, yet it is to be understood that changes in the details of 'construction can be had which will fall within the scope of the'invention as claimed.

In combinatioma stocking having its upper terminal portion provided witha pocket opening at the outer side of said portion, a strap slidably mounted in said pocket and having the end portions thereof extended outwardly from the pocket, meanscarried by the strap and the upper terminal portion-0f the stocking for detachably securing the strap in adjusted position, and means carried by one of the projecting end portions of the strap and engageable with.

the upper terminal portion of thestocking for limiting the shifting movement in one direction of thestrap.

'2. In combination, a stocking having its upper terminal portion provided with "a" its other end portion projecting outwardly from said pocket and provided with means for limiting the shifting movement thereof in one direction, and means for selectively and detachably connecting the said other end terminal portion of the strap at different points on the outer face of the upper terminal portion of the stocking.
