To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FREDERICK SIMON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Woodmere, county of Nassau, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Razors, of which the following is a specification.

My present improvements relate to the type of safety razor set forth in Letters Patent No. 1,442,451, issued to me January 16, 1923, and are the result of experimental investigation incidental to perfecting the device as a commercial product,the present invention relating more particularly to the configuration and relative arrangement of the razor blade and its holder or guard, and consisting in the specific construction of said parts described and claimed whereby simplicity and cheapness are combined and attained in conjunction with other advantageous results, all as hereinafter fully set forth.

In the accompanying drawings I illustrate a practical embodiment of the essential features of my present invention, although I do not wish to restrict myself to the identical shape of parts and appurtenances shown by way of exemplification, since changes may be made in minor details, and equivalent mechanical expedients resorted to, with like results, and without departing from the spirit and intent of my invention in this respect.

The distinctive feature of my present in vention consists essentially in making the rear edge of the razor blade I). with the shoulders Z), I), for contactual engagement with the ends .9, s, of the spines, of the blade holder or guard S, the ends of the latter being bevelled or chamfered forward at equal but divergent angles which compensate for the difference in length between said spine 8, and the length of the blade 6, the ends of which are rectangular. In other words, as heretofore, the serrated front edge 8 of the guard S, is equal, substantially, in length to the length of the blade 6, and the difference in length between said serrated front edge 3 of the guard S, and its spine 8, is equal to the extension of the rear edges of the blade beyond the ends of the spine 8, so that blade I), in its entirety, is equal in length to the serrated front edge of the guard S, as demonstrated more particularly in Figs. 7, 8 and 9 of the-drawings.

This formation of the shoulders I), Z), entirely within the length of the blade I), is advantageous in many respects, as protuberant and therefore objectionable shoulders such as shown in the Cress Patent No. 996,- 837, are obviated, and the structure of the blade I), rendered simple, economical and efi'ective,the combination of blade I), and holder or guard S, thus effected, being selfcontained and unitary in character, and the contactual engagement of the blade shoulders s, s, with the ends of the spine 8', of the guard effectually counteracting any tendency of the blade to shift laterally in the holder S, when the binding screw a, is caused to impinge against the blade I), as indicated more particularly in Fig. 11, of the drawings, said binding screw a, forming the apex of the post A, means of which the guard S, and razor blade 8, are mounted in operative position on the handleI-I, as shown in Fig. 1, of the drawings, and said post A, and handle H, being essentially the same in construction and function as shown and set forth in my-aforesaid Letters Patent No. 1,442,451, the main difference in this respect, in the present case, being that the underplate of the guard S, is formed with an embossment s, which is female screw threaded for the reception of the screw a, of the post A, thereby aflt'ording greater strength and rigidity to the copulative connection between the post A, holder C, and blade 6, as will be understood by reference more particularly to Fig. 11, of the draw- By this construction and arrangement of blade and holder the'blades are especially adaptable for manufacture as replacements for general use, and the perfect alignment of the blade Within the holder S, is assured, While objectionable extraneous protuberances of the blade beyond the holder are eliminated.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

In a safety razor of the'oharacter designated, the combination of a blade holder formed with a spine of less length than the blade, and a rectangular blade the rear edge of which is formed With a reduced edge and blade-positioning shoulders for the contactual engagement With the ends of said spine, the ends of said holder being chamfered divergently outward and forward to substantiallythe full length of the blade,

for the purpose and as set forth herein.
