Description
e. 13, 1938. v HEINRICH 2,139,680
MINIATURE SAFETY RAZOR Filed May ll, 1957 Patented Dec. 13, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
1 Claim.
My invention relates generally to safety razors, and more particularly to a miniature safety razor particularly intended for use in cutting hairs from the nostrils and ears.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a relatively simple, practical and inexpensive miniature safety razor that is very compact, and which includes a holder, a blade, and a guard, which, when properly assembled, provides simple and effective means for conveniently cutting hairs from the nostrils and ears, and the construction of the razor being such that the guard that overlies the blade, while the latter is positioned on the holder, is provided at its rear erid ll with a resilient clip that engages the rear portion of the holder in order to firmly retain the blade in proper position upon said holder.
A further object of my invention is to provide a miniature razor of the character referred to,
wherein the holder, blade and guard are provided with curved forward edges in order to enable the razor to be more conveniently used in the nostrils and ears.
With the foregoing and other objects in view,
my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts that will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a miniature razor constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the holder.
Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the blade.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing which illustrates a preferred embodiment of my invention, Il) designates a plate, preferably formed of metal, which serves as the 4o frame or support for the blade, and the front edge of this plate is practically semi-circular in shape and provided with a series of teeth II that function as guards for the edge of the razor blade while the same is in use.
Formed integral with the underside of plate Ill, and disposed at an angle of approximately 30 or 40 relative thereto, is a stud I2 in which is formed a threaded recess for the accommodation of the threaded stem I3 0f a handle I4. This handle may be of any desired size and shape- Formed on top of the plate I0 adjacent its side edges, are upwardly projecting studs I5, and projecting upwardly from the center of said plate is a stud I6.
The razor blade I 'I, which is illustrated in (cl. sof-3s) Fig. 4, is formed from thin hard metal, and its forward edge I8, which is substantially lsemicircular in shape, is sharpened.
Formed in the sides of blade I1 are notches I9 which, when the blade is positioned on the holder, 5 receives the stud I5. Formed through the center of the blade is an aperture 20, which, when the blade is applied to the holder, receives the stud I6.
Thus the engagement of the studs I5 in the 10 notches I9 and the stud I6 in the aperture 20, firmly holds the blade against any lateral or twisting movement while positioned upon the holder.
When the blade is positioned on the holder, the l5 sharp forward edge I8 of said blade occupies a position parallel with and slightly inset from the forward ends of the guard teeth II on the front edge of the holder.
A combined guard and blade holder comprises 20 a plate 2| of thin resilient sheet metal, the front edge 22 of which is semi-circular in shape so as to conform with the shapes of the forward ends of the blade and holder, and when this retaining member is positioned on the holder, the plate 25 2| overlies the blade I1, and with the curved front edge '22 positioned a slight distance inwardly from the sharp edge I8 of said blade.
This arrangement provides a guard to prevent the sharp edge of the blade from cutting the 30 skin while the razor is in use.
The rear end of the guard plate 2| is bent downwardly and inwardly to form a resilient hook 23, and adjacent the end of said hook the metal therein is indented or pressed upwardly to 35 form a rib 24 which, when the guard plate is applied to the razor, occupies a transversely disposed groove 25 that is formed in the under face of the holder I0 adjacent its rear edge.
In assembling the parts of the razor for use, 40 the blade I1 is positioned on plate Ill with the projections I6 seated in the aperture 20 and the studs I5 occupying the notches I9.
Thus the blade is held against movement in all directions upon the plate I0 and to secure the 45 blade in such position the forward portion of the plate 2I is positioned on top of the rear portion of the blade, and said plate is moved forward until the hook 23 engages the rear portion of plate I0 with the rib or indentation 24 seated in 50 the groove 25.
Thus the parts of the razor are firmly retained in assembled relation and said razor may be con veniently used for cutting hairs from the nostrils and from the ears. 55
In order to be effectively used, the parts Il, I1 and 2| must necessarily be small in size, for instance the over-all dimensions of said parts when assembled for use should' not be greater than three-eighths of an inch.
The forward edges of the plates I0 and 2| and blade I1 are curved in order to conform to the curvature of the surfaces of the nostrils and the tapered openings in the ears, and such arrangement adds materially to the effectiveness of the razor while in use.
Thus it will be seen that I have provided a miniature safety razor that is relatively simple in construction, inexpensive of manufacture. and very effective in performing the functions for which it is intended.
' It will be understood that minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved miniature safety razor may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departing from the spirit of the invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claim.
' I claim as my invention:
A miniature safety razor comprising a handle. a plate detachably applied to. said handle and occupying a position immediately adjacent the end thereof, said plate being inclined with respect to the axis of the handle, the front lower edge of which plate is semi-circular in form and provided with substantially parallel teeth, a lug projecting upwardly from the center of the top of said plate, lugs formed on top of the plate adjacent the sides thereof, a blade removably positioned on top of said inclined plate, the sharpened edge of which blade is semi-circular in shape and overles the teeth on said plate, said blade being provided with an aperture and notches for the reception of the lugs on the upper surface of said plate, a guard plate overlying the blade, the front edge of which guard plate is semi-circular in form and occupies a position adjacent the sharp edge o! the blade, a depending hook projecting inwardly from the rear edge of said guard plate and there being a transversely disposed groove formed in the under side of said inclined plate for the reception of the free end of said hook.
