CLEMENS KEITEL, OF PEGAU, SAXONY.
IMPROVEMENT IN CANDLE-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,450, dated September 29, 1874; application tiled v September 9, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CLEMENs KEITEL, of Pegau, in the Kingdom of Saxony, have invented a new and Improved Candle-Holder, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a side View of my improved candle-holder, showing it closed, and Fig. 2 is a side View of the same, showing it open.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
This invention has for its object to provide a convenient and ornamental device for supporting candles on the branches of Christmastrees and other oscillating support; and consists'in attaching to the pan of the candlestick proper, by means of a downwardly-projecting wire, a weight, from which another wire extends upward toward the candle-holder, there to be connected after application to the branch, with the upper part of the iirst wire. In this manner the balanced candleholder has its pendent portion, though made without a joint or swivel, still capable of being closed entirely around the branch, and can, therefore, not fall oli' the branch to which it may be applied. The spring of the upwardly-extending wire allows of sufficient movement for hooking and unhooking it.
In the accompanying drawing, the letter A represents the nozzle and pan of the candleholder, made of sheet metal or other suitable material, of suitable design. B is a wire, which is rigidly secured to the pan, and extends downwardly from said candle-holder, and which connects at its lower end with a weight, C. This weight is made in the form of a butteriiy, bird, or other ornamental article tending to add to the embellishment ot' a Christmas-tree or other device. D is a wire, which extends upwardly from the weight C toward the candle-holder, and has its upper end formed into a hook, a. By means of this hook, a, the two wires B and D can be hooked together at their upper parts, as in Fig. 1, and make the whole instrument symmetrical in form, in contradistinction to single wire candle-holders, which are always out of symmetry. Before the candle-holder is applied the hook a is disengaged from the wire B, as in Fig. 2, in which position the candle-holder admits of convenient application to a branch, rod, or wire. After it has been slipped over the branch or other support the candle-holder is secured thereto by hooking the upper parts of the wires D and B together. The wire D has sufficient spring to allow of the side motion necessary for connecting its upper part with the wire B.
I claim as my invention- A candle-holder, A, rigidly connected by the wire B with the pendent weight C, and combined with the spring-wire D, having the hook et for direct connection with the wire B, substantially as specified.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 18th day otl August, 187i.
CLEMENS KEI'IEL.
