Description

G.l G. BATES.
4Reels. for Textile Fabrics. l N0.155',279 Patented sept.22,1874.
UNITED STATE-s PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE G. BATES, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN REELS FOR TEXTILE FABRICS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,279, dated September 22, 1874 application led August 18, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, GEORGE G. BATES, of New York, in the State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Reels for Textile Fabrics, of which the following is a speciiication:
The nature of my invention consists in the arrangement of a bracket or frame, hinged to the upper ange of a reel, to enable said reel to be placed in any desired position for the purpose of exhibiting the fabric to its best advantage, and, at the same time, to form a protection to the fabric when two or more reels are packed together in a box.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure I represents an end view of a reel embodying my in vention. Fig. Il is a back view of the same. Fig. III represents three reels as packed in a box.
A is a reel, consisting of two or more uprights, a a, connected together, at top and bottom, by wide flanges n and m, and constructed in the usual manner. To the top flange, m, a bracket or frame, B, is attached by means of suit-able hinges, or some exible material, and of any desired size and shape, but of sufficient length to lie upon the bottom flange, n, when closed.
Whenever the fabric is to be exhibited this reel can be placed upon the edge of its lower ange, n, and, by means of this bracket B, held in any desired inclination.
When two or moreof these reels are placed in a box, as shown inFig. III, for transportation, this bracket B will form a separation between the fabrics, and prevent the material Wound upon one reel from coming in contact with the material wound upon the other adjoining reel, and prevent any injury to the same.
It will be seen that the leg or bracketis connected to the flange or" the reel so as to provide for the Winding on of the goods Without its interfering with them, and to permit said bracket to be outside of the goods in the box, and that a convenient and inexpensive device for exhibiting textile fabrics is furnished.
I am aware that a bracket or leg has been hinged to the back of alooking-glass, pictureframe, &c., but such is not my invention.
I claim as my invention- As an article of manufacture, a reel for exhibiting textile fabrics, provided at one end with a flange, to which is hinged the end of a bracket or leg, as herein shown, whereby the goods may be wound upon the reel Without the bracket interfering, and the latterl permitted to lie outside the goods, as set forth.
GEORGE G. BATES.
