UNITED STATES GEORGE`EUGENE BERTRAND, 0F MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
KEY HOLDER.
A'pplicationlled March 30, 1922, Serial To all Iwhom it may] concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE EUGENE BERTRAND, acitizen of the United States, residing in Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful KeyI-Iolder, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in key-ringholders ofthe type set'out inmy co-pending application filed February 28, 1921, Serial Number 448,639.
Its object is to provide an improvedfdevice of this nature including a hook for detachably receiving a key-ring and a second hook for suspending"thestructure from the waist band, or other. part of a wearers clothing;
i thisL kind, the
the other,
also a fiexible hood adapted to A cover keys on a ring hung on said first hook,
whereby A said .keys are prevented `from injuring thecloth Ik further object is to provide a device` of parts thereof being capable of being quickly and easily assembled andv adapted, when assembled, to retain the de` sired relation of parts, one with respect to under all conditions in use.,` n
Another object is toprovide an improvement including assembled Ametallic members and flexible hood therefor, said members being formed to reinforce andlend shapek to the Hexible hood. Y
A n additional object is to provide an improved article of this kind that will remain secure against accidental removal from a wearers clothing, wit-hout undue wear of the clothing. w
Other Vnovel features ofthe inventionwill appear from the detailed description thereof taken .in connection with the accompanying drawings .forming part of this specification.
In the drawings, Fig. 1 is a rear elevation of adevice embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a central, longitudinal, sectional view taken on the line 2*2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 14 is a perspective view,
` isa 4plan of a blank from which the shank andoneof the hooks are formed.
ecting ,longitudinally from the lends thereof,

ing laterally from the sides thereof, eyes 15 and 16 offset, respectively, from the front and rear of the shank 10 (Fig. 2) and a lug or catch 17 struck from-the shank 10, said lug having its free end turned slightly backward. Thejlip 11 is turned back upon the shank (Fig. 2) to form a yielding supporting hook 18, said shank 10 being preferably the hook 18. A hook member designed for application to the shank 10, is arranged on the side of said shank opposite the hook 18 and in reversed relation. This hook member Z2 is formed from a strip of resilient metal bent to form parallel reaches 2O and 21, joined by a loop 22, the reach 2O being apertured,
as at 23, at its free end, while the other `reach 21 is bent to forma ring receiving `latter Hap comprising upper and lower sections 27 and 28 joined by a seam 29 to form a pocket 30 between the lapping portions of said sections The front lfiap includes an upper section 31,reduced at its lower endto form a strap 32, which strap is provided at itsr free end with a locking tab y33. vSaid front flap also includes a lower section 34, attached at one side to a side of section 28, said lower section 34 having a slit 35 therein to receive said locking tab 33. A central slot 36 is cut in the rear flap section 27 near the seam 26 and two adjacent parallel slots 37 are cut in said section beneath said first mentioned slot. The former slot 36 receives the lip 11 forming the hook 18 and the latter slots 37 receivethe locking lip 12. The shoulders 13.011 spreaders, as
they may be termed, lit snugly within the`v top of the hood, reinforcing the same and lending shape thereto. Said shoulders 13 and locking lip 12, together with the lip 11, secure the hood B upon thebody A. The lugs 14 are turned rearward, the tips thereof being turned outward to preventcutting the iap section27. These` lugs form bulges 38 upon opposite sides of the together with the gripping bend 39 at the free extremity of said lip,.providing irregular clamping surfaces,
therear fiap A between'y which the Wearers clothing is engaged.' 1() indicates key retaining cleats or spacers of felt or other suitable material, said cleats beingsewed or otherwiseab. tached to the longitudinal margins of the rear flap section 28. on the cleat L10, opposite the junction of the lap sections 28 and Salce-operates With'a" companion fastener member 1-2 on the flap section Minholdingjthe hood closed upon keys therein.
The shank 10 andhookl member both stamped from; sheet' metal, arereadiljyT assembled as hereinbefore explained. rlhese assembledparts are readil-Y applied to the hood Bi as followvsz'iifter separating the front flap sections 31l and'Bt byremoving the locking tab fon the former from the slit 35 in the latter, theliap section 31 is liftedfto permit the application ofthebody A' to thehood B`(see 1 `ig. 2), said flap sections 31 andS/febeing thereafter joined by replacing' the locking tab 33 Within the slit 35.
In use, thedevice is preferably carried on ansers Waist band by catching the hook 18" thereover, the irregular gripping surfaces ail'orded by' thebulgesBS and the `turn 39`on said`l1ool\,serving to secure the device against accidental removal." 1ny apply inga key-ring, the front iiapv is turned to one side (Fig si) and' the ring caught in lthe hook 2a by pressing the same downward and thus iexing the ring= guard 25' outward sui iciently toA permitthe passage of the ring between ,said guard andthe reach 21 of the hook member b.' The device isusually carriedtinaplace, 'wherein the user cannot be conveniently'guided by sightV in applying thering." rThe `frontof theI hook Qiafliords a relativel v\ long surface upon which airing maybe guided u-pvvard to the mouth of said hoolr'. lnremoving a ring from the hook 2K1, th'eusers thumb is braced against the thumb-piece formed by' the loop 22, Whereupon the ring mayY be 'readily freed from the hook againstlt1 eaction of the yielding ringguard 25, 7ith'out disturbing the position of the device upon the WaistJ band.
