Description

M. BERKOWITZ HAND BAG Filed Deo. 24, 1924 Nov. 17, 1925.
fm MW /NVEN TTOH/VEYS Patented Nov. 17, 1925.
UNITED STATES MAX BERKOWITZ, OF RICHMOND HILL, NEW YORK.
HAND BAG.
Application led December 24, 1924.
To @ZZ afa/0m t may concern.
Be it known that I, MAX Bnaliowrrz, a citizen of the United States, residing at Richmond Hill, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand Bags, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in handbags and relates more particularly to that type of handbags which is reversible, that is, where the inside and outside of the bag are of contrasting colors and the bag is so constructed that it can be turned inside out without impairing its general serviceableness as a ladys handbag. In this type of handbag, one side can be made of leather, the other of silk or both sides may be made of the same material but of contrasting colors.
A particular object of this invention is to provide a reversible handbag with a handle in which the handle is also reversible so that the color of the handle visible to the observer will match the color of the rest of the bag.
Further Objects of the invention will be apparent from the specification and drawings in which- Fig. l shows a perspective of a handbag of this type with the outer surface of leather.
Fig. 2 is a perspective of the saine handbag with the fabric surface.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view along the line 3-3 of Fig. l.
Fig. et is a sectional view showing the manner in which the coloring of the handle is reversed so as to match the coloring of the rest of the ag.
Fig. 5 is a sectional 5`5 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view of the clasp or lock of the bag.
Fig. 7 is a sectional View alone.
Fig. 8 is a sectional view of the clasp or lock of the bag in the reverse position to that shown in Fig. 6.
In bags of this character, the body A is provided on one side with the leather facing B and on the reverse side with the silk or fabric facing C which are of contrasting colors. The bag is provided with a clasp D engaging' the snap fastener E and View along the line of the clasp Serial No. 757,782.
the clasp D is pivoted with the ball pivot F as shown in Figs. 6 and 8, so that the clasp may be swung around so as to have the ball shaped member D engage the fastener E in both portions of the bag. An opening G is made at the top of the bag and the handle H has its edges sewn to the body of the bag at the sides of the opening G.
It will be apparent that if the handle H were made in the ordinary manner as is customary with handbags, it would not be reversible and therefore in one position, the fabric of the handle H would not match the color of the rest of the bag.
By loosening the clasp D as shown in Fig. 4l and working the handle H through the hole G, the handle, however, may be reversed as will be readily seen from an inspection of Fig. 4l so the exposed handle will always match in color, the rest of the bag.v
In this way, a double service bag is afforded with the expense of only a single bag, and such a bag may be used with costumes worn by the wearer of varying colors.
Having thus fully described my .invention, what I claim is:
l. In a handbag, the combination of a handbag body of contrasting colors, a handle affixed to said body, said handle being reversible so as to match the color of the handbag outwardly exposed.
2. In a handbag, a body having' the inside and outside thereof contrasting colors, a handle attached to said handbag having the inside and outside thereof of contrasting colors and an opening in the body of said bag by which the said handle may be reversed.
3. In a handbag, a fabric body having the two sides thereof of varying materials, means so that either material may be outwardly exposed, a handle attached to said body, and an opening in said body through which said handle may be reversed.
4. In a handbag, the combination of a body made of diverse materials 'so that either of said materials may be outwardly exposed, a handle attached to said bag, said handle being lined with materials to match the materials of said handbag, an opening in the body of said handbag, said handle being reversible through said openings.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
MAX BERKOWITZ.
