This invention relates to an article retainer or holder and more particularly to a device.

adapted to be attached orapplied'to another for retaining or-holding an article -for convenience, prevention of loss or damage, ornamentation, as a handle, or the like.

It is an object of the invention to provide an article retainer or holder of simple and inexpensive construction, which is convenient to use, which can be produced of any desired material and color, and which can be fabricated and attached to and sold as a part of an article .or can be sold independently for separate use, as desired.

Further objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following specification taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, wherein:

The invention is contemplated for use in any convenient or desired manner as illustrated in the drawing; for example, on a pocketbook or case Ill having a cover H with an attaching flap l2 and a slot 13 through which a fastener I4 is adapted to be inserted and turned 90 for holding the cover in closed position. The pocketbook or case In may include a shoulder strap [5 by means of which it may be carried.

The invention is particularly suitable where change in wardrobe and color scheme make it desirable to produce the invention of different materials and in various colors, as well as the fact that due to itsstructure and configuration it can be easily applied to numerous devices which form supports for the same.

The device of the present invention comprises an article retainer having a body It and a flap ll with a fastener l8 near its extremity. The device which is substantially of T-shape configuration when flattened and fully extended, is particularly adapted for use with ladies costumes and can be covered with or produced of the desired type and color of material to complete the color scheme of the wearer, as well as serve as a holder for eyeglasses or other articles on the interior or exterior of a pocketbook or bag as a handle, as a protector for eyeglasses, and the Also it will be readily apparent that the device may be produced in a combination of colors so that it may have a multi-tone efiect and can be varied in siz and configuration in accordance with requirements.

By its use eyeglasses are protected against loss or damage, and they are retained for convenient and ready use without the necessity of access being had to the interior of a pocketbook or other article on which the device is mounted, although if desired the device can be applied both to the interior or exterior. of a pocketbook or other article.

It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in the invention without departing from the spirit and scope thereof and therefore the invention is not limited by that which is shown in the drawings and described in the specification but only as indicated in the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. In combination with a support a holder for eyeglasses comprising a relatively flat elongated body, means attachin one edge of said body to said support with the free edge of said body unattached and permitting insertion of eyeglasses beneath said body, the ends of said body having cutout portions permitting the arms of the eyeglasses to be folded above said body, a flap extending from the side of the body which has its edges attached to the support and extending across said body and overlying and forming a protection for said arms and forming a handle or holder, and fastening means in the extremity of said flap for securing the same to said support.

2. An article holder or retainer for eyeglasses or the like comprising a relatively fiat, elongated body for attachment along one side edge to a support, and beneath which body a pair of eyeglasses is adapted to be inserted, with the arms of the eyeglasses folded above said body, a flap extending from the side of said body opposite that which is adapted to be attached to the support, said flap serving to extend across said body and overlie said arms and having fastening means for securing the free end of said flap to the support.

A retainer for a pair of spectacles or the like comprising a relatively flat elongated body adapted for attachment along one side edge thereof to a supporting member, the extremities of the free opposite side edge of said body being provided with cut away portions whereby a pair of spectacles may be inserted between said body and said supporting member with the arms of said spectacles folded above said body, a flap extending from the side edge of said body which is attached to said supporting member, said flap being adapted to extend across said body and 4 overlie the arms of said spectacles, and securing means on the upper surface of said flap adapted for engagement with complementary securing means carried by said supporting member for retaining said flap in engaged position.
