1 Claim.
The object of the invention is to provide a device for use by women drivers for attachment to and over the heel of the shoe to protect that as Well as the rear face and side portions of the heel 'o' of the shoe to prevent the latter from being marred; to provide a device of this character which is attachable to the shoe and which will hold its position on the latter without the use of fasteners; and generally to provide a device of i] the kind indicated which is of simple form and susceptible of cheap manufacture.
With this object in view, the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is illustrated in l the accompanying drawing but to which the invention is not to be restricted. Use in practice may dictate certain changes or alterations and the right is claimed to make any falling within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevational View, partly broken away, showing the invention applied in operative position.
Figure 2 is a rear elevational View of the invention.
Figure 3 is a top plan View.
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the plane indicated by the line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a detail sectional View showing the laminated construction of the guard and the reinforcement bounding a portion of its marginal edge.
Shaped to cover the shoe heel of a womans shoe and to enclose the rear and sides of the heel portion thereof, the guard indicated in its entirety at 10 is of plural ply construction as indicated at 11, the plies embodying rubber and fabric, so that the structure as a Whole will have elasticity and a. high coeflicient of friction to prevent slipping of the device on the floor of the vehicle when attached to the shoe of the user. The bottom of the heel portion is formed with a comparatively thick rubber lift 12.
Inset in the sides adjacent the rear end and extending to the edges are gussets 14 of elastic material, preferably rubber, and the edge bounding the opening through which the heel and rear portion of the shoe is inserted in attaching is bounded with a reinforcing strip 15, extending from the gusset on the one side down underneath the instep of the shoe and terminating at the gusset on the other side.
When the device is attached, the gussets function to hold it snugly in engagement with the shoe and the reinforcement 15 functions to pull it up in the instep to t the latter snugly and, with the aid of the gussets, to hold the sides down close against the sides of the shoe.
Thus the device when in use, is held in place without the use of fasteners of any kind, its snug fitting of the shoe providing enough friction to effectively retain it in place.
The invention having been described, what is claimed as new and useful is:
A protector for the purpose indicated comprising a body member shaped to conform to the heel and heel portion of a shoe, and having elastic inserts on opposite sides to contract its marginal edges into firm binding engagement with the shoe, the body member having a reinforcement at its marginal edge extending from the insert on one side down underneath the instep engaging portion and terminating at the insert on the other side.
