HEEL PROTECTOR Filed June 12, 1929 F p-Z.

Patented July 1930 UNITED STA nun. BARTHES, or SALINAS, oamronma I HEEL rno'rnc'ron.
Application filed June 12,
My present invention relates to heel protectors for shoes and more particularly to a protector for the protection of the rear portion of ladies shoes against damage, as when driving an automobile.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and novel form of protector which is an improvement upon the protector disclosed and claimed in my prior Patent Number 1,571,466, dated February 2, 1926.
It is well known'that in driving automobiles, the heel and rear portions of the drivers shoes rest on the fioor of the car and become marred, scratched and worn. This situation is particularly objectionable to ladies, since their shoes, being of a finer texture, very quickly become soiled and worn from this cause.
In the accompanying drawing I have illustrated one specific embodiment of my invention, but it will be understood that the invention can be otherwise embodied and that the drawing is not to be constructed as defining or limiting the scope of the invention,
the claims appended to this specification being relied upon for that purpose.
Referring to the figures of the drawing:
Fig. 1 illustrates the use of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my improved to heel protector.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view thereof.
In the preferred embodiment of my present heel protector, I propose to construct the heel protector of a moldable material and 85 preferably of a molded celluloid compound. .However, I desire to have it understood that the nature of the material is immaterial so long as it possesses characteristics which will render it relatively stiff and at the same time flexible so that, when it is fitted upon the shoe, it will grip the same and thereby retain itself in position independently of any additional securing means.
In the drawing, 10 designates the heel protector as a whole, wherein it is shown as shaped to conform to the rear portion of the shoe and having a heel portion 11 formed integrally with the sides and back. The casing is constructed, as stated above, of a relatively stiff material and when the parts are 1929. Serial No. 370,262.
formed as illustrated with the sides curved inwardly at their upper portion, both with respect to a vertical plane and a horizontal plane lying at approximately the central part of the casing, there will be a corresponding action by the sides against the rear portion of the shoe. The inside of the casing will preferably be lined with a soft material such ient manner, Where it will firmly retain itself against displacement.
The construction and use of my invention, it is believed, will be obvious from the above description. "When desiring to use the protector, the driver will merely snap the same over the heel portion of the shoe, as indicated in Fig. 1. In this action, it will be understood, the sides will yield outwardly and because of their natural resilience engage the sides of the shoe so as to hold the protector firmly in place. When leaving the drivers seat, the protectors can be very conveniently removed without delay or effort and, as a result, by the use'of my invention, the drivers shoes will be protected against being soiled and worn as at present is so common.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. A heel protector constructed of resilient material and comprising a casing having flexible side and rear portions formed in one piece and adapted to snugly fit over and about the heel of the rear portion of a shoe, and a bottom portion adapted to fit over the bottom of the heel and hold the sides of the p casing in spaced relation, the top and front portion of the casing being open and circumscribed by the marginal portion of the protector at the top of the casing and at the front edge of the casing and heel portion thereof, whereby said bottom portion will reinforce and stifl'en said side portions, the
side portions at the top and front being extended forwardly beyond the :tront edge of l the said bottom portion and converging to determined spaced relation.
their front edges so as to clamp the protector in position on the shoe through the resiliency of the material.
2. A heel protector constructed of resilient material and comprising a casing having flexible side and rear portions formed in one piece and adapted to snugly fit over and about the heel of the rear portion of a shoe, the top and front portion of the casing being open and the side portions at the top and front being extended forwardly beyond the front edges of the bottom of the side portions and converging to their front edges so as to clamp the protector in position on the shoe through the resiliency of the material, and
means connected with the side portions for normally holding the side portions in a pre- EMI L BARTHES.
