Description
Dec. 8, 1959 M. McDONOUGH LADIES HIGH HEEL COVERINGS Filed March 4, 1958 FIG. 3
INVENT OR MARY McDONOUGH United States Patent LADIES HIGH HEEL COVERINGS Mary McDonough, Ventura, Calif.
Application March 4, 1958, Serial No. 719,142
1 Claim. (Cl. 36-72) My invention relates to a novel idea for covering the high heels of ladies shoes, whereas the coverings are supplied as separate units, to be slipped, clipped or otherwise attached to the high heels of ladies shoes.
This invention has as its object, style, color and novelty charm. These heel coverings would be made in sets of color, whereby milady could oppose or contrast the color of her heels to match, or appropriately oppose the color scheme of dress, hat, purse or other apparel, thereby providing more color combinations to a pair of shoes.
Further objects of my invention are to provide a ready means by which said style cover can be easily and quickly secured on or removed from any of the ordinary conventional high heels now in general use. Many times high heels become scuflied, as from driving an automobile where the ladys foot is constantly being used on the pedals, thus causing the heel to rub on the coarse mat of the floor, or from walking through sand, gravel or other uneven pavement; rendering them unsightly and many times beyond repair of scuff marks. Thus one of my objects is to provide a covering of this character which shall be neat in appearance, substantial, durable and inexpensive.
I attain this object as illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the ladies high heel shoe to which the invention is being applied;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of my detachable covering; and
Figure 3 shows a cross-sectional view of the heel with the covering.
In my device the covering is made of a sturdy, suitable material such as thin plastic, which is cut to an exact pattern so that it will follow the contour of a ladys high heel shoe. The covering is hollow as shown at 1 to allow for the passage of the heel 3 into it. The heel covering 2 is formed to fit snugly up against the heel seat 8 of the shoe. The contour of the heel is closely followed, as shown at 4, while the opening 5 in the bottom of the detachable covering permits the lift of heel 3 to be exposed. Figure 2 shows a slit 6 in the covering to allow for any small amount of spread which may result from the lift portion when the covering is applied to the heel. This is necessary to prevent damage to the covering as it adheres very closely to the contour of the heel. Figure 2 also shows a clasp or fastener 7 which is applied after the covering is on the heel to secure the cover in place.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A readily removable and replaceable style cover of pliable material to completely encompass the high heel of a ladys shoe, said detachable cover closely conforming to the shape and size of the heel and extending from the top of the heel to the lift, and leaving only the lift exposed, said cover having a slit on the breast face thereof extending above the lift and co-operating fastener means on both sides of said slit, so as to close the slit and draw the style cover tight around the heel.
