This invention relates to toilet seat or.: lid;
toilet lid which will t various standard sizes of and;
the latter, is inexpensive to` manufactureeasy to handle.
Still another object of the present inventionY is to. provide means permitting a-certain degree. of give tothe cover of the lid whereby the4 cover may be readily conformed tothe'. shape of` the particular lid to which it is applied.
It is a further object of this invention to provide simple anchoring or attaching means in the form of snap fasteners and the like which facilitate instantaneous application of the cover to and removal from the toilet lid.
These and other objects of the invention will be pointed out in the following description and claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which discloses, by way of example, the principle of the invention and preferred modes which have been contemplated for applying said principle.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a bottom plan view of the toilet lid cover per se.
Fig. 2 shows the lid cover of Fig. l in applied condition.
Fig. 3 is a cross-section taken along line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 shows in modified form the lid cover in applied condition, part of which being in the process of being affixed to the toilet lid.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, there is shown in Fig. 1 a bottom view of a lid cover I made from a suitable pliable fabric material. The inner circumferential edge |I of the cover I0 carries an elastic ribbon or band I2 forming a binding, which may be'suitably shaped in order to conform the same to the outline of the circumferential edge The rearward end I3 of cover Ill projects beyond the edges I4, I5 of the elastic binding I2 and has attached thereto a web I6 made from rubber or other suitable elastic or stretchable material. This web or tongue I6 is stitched along seam |`|,'either to the zoiaims. (c1. 4--242i f f underside ory tothe end" of' theto'p surface. of cover I0. Thev free' end of web.V I6. iszreinforced by; a fold I-andcarriesh atzopposed ends fastening meansinthe' form of' snapbuttons: I 9, 2 0;

Fig. 2 shows the` coverf ofv Fig.: l' in; appliediconzdition on atoiletf lid 2.5 which has an extension 2 6 through' an openingv 21T of. which. a hinge; bolt. (not/shownli may extend in; transverse. direction for swingable movement' of theilild, with respect to the toilet. seat. Web.v |615 as; canl be;V seen. from Fig. 2 is swungl around the forward endzof.vv extension 26 so that snap buttons |9, 2 I: and-20,122 become engaged and'hold cover I0 firmly-but somewhat yieldably on lid 25.
If it is now desired to apply the lid cover I0 to a diierent kind of lid 30 which is not provided with an extension 26 but is rather of the old and standard type having a somewhat more round coniiguration terminating in a substantially ilat rear part 30a, all that is to be done is to forwardly move web I6 at the underside of the lid 30 to a position at which the snap buttons I9, 2D come to lie substantially in alignment with snap buttons 23 and 24. In this position it is proposed in accordance with the invention to hold web I6 in place by means of a strap member 3| having the outer snap buttons 23a, 24a and the intermediate snap button parts |9a, 20a. Snap buttons I9a and 20a are male buttons which engage the respective female snap buttons I9 and 20 of web I6, whereas snap buttons 23a and 24a become engaged with the male buttons 23 and 24 of the cover I0.
In order to further obtain a substantially rm anchorage of the cover on toilet lid 30, it is further suggested to employ a strap member 32 extending from snap button 2| of the cover to snap button 22. Strap 32 carries corresponding female buttons 2 Ia and 22a for the engagement of the complementary snap button parts 2| and 22. If desired, strap members 3| and 32 may also be made of an elastic, stretchable material. Instead of a single strap 3|, two straps may be employed which extend, respectively, between buttons 24 and 2B on the one hand and I9 and 23 on the other hand.
As can be further seen in Fig. 4, appropriate holes 33 and 34 are provided at the underface 3 30h of lid 30 to attach the lid holders by means of screws (not shown) in the conventional manner.
It can thus be seen that there has been provided in accordance with this invention a cover for a toilet lid comprising a body of pliable material having a rear end and a circumferential edge, said body extending to cover the entire upper surface' of said lid and projecting with said circumferential edge to the underface of said lid, an elastic strip forming the binding of said circumferential edge of said body, a web of elastic material extending from said rear end. of said body therebeyond and adapted to be folded for position adjacent said binding, andrespective means fixed to said binding and to said web to detachably connect said web to said binding to thereby anchor said cover on the underface of said lid and to retain said cover on the latter.
In contradistinction-to conventional lid covers the present structure is characterized by aq circumferential edge Il alongwhich an elastic element l2 extends, which terminates at a rearward extension i3 adapted-to rest upon the lid extension 26 whence web I6 projects as illustrated in Fig. 3..
Although the invention has been described with referencey tocertain specific embodiments thereof, it is to be distinctly understood that various modifications and adaptations of the arrangements herein disclosed may be made andA may readily occur to persons skilled in the art without constituting a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the objects and in the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is:
1. A cover for a toilet lid having a rear end,
comprising a body of a substantially pliable material shaped for position over the surface of said lid and having a circumferential edge extending for position underneath said surface, said circumferential edge terminating in two spaced apart ends, an extension piece connected with said body and of such dimension to extend around said rear end of said lid, and respective complementary fastening means adjacent said ends of said circumferential edge and associated with said extension piece, said circumferential edge being provided with elastic binding means whereby said body may be conformed to the shape of and held in position below the surface of said lid, said extension piece being made of a substantially .resilient material and adapted to extend over a part of the underface of said lid around said end thereof for connection with said circumferential edge by means of said fastening means.
2. A cover for a toilet lid according to claim 1, wherein said extension piece is made of an elastic web adaped to be stretched in lengthwise direction of said lid.
