UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES R. HOLLAND, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIG'NOR TO DISPLAY FIGURE CO1VI- PAN'Y, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS. I
DISPLAY FORM.
Application filedllanuary 29, 1925. Serial No. 5,433.
To all whom it may conceaw:
Be it known that 1, JAMES R. HOLLAND, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Display Form, of which the following is a specification.
-This invention relates in general to display forms and particularly to a bust and head for'the display of fou r in-hand neck ties.
Such neckwear' is frequently effectively displayed by presenting it with a knot therein to indicate the appearance of the article as it is to worn It is the object of the present invention to provide a. profile or flat form of a mans head and bust showing a substantially side view of the neck for a proper display of the tied ncckwear. w
It is a further object ofthe invention-to provide a. form having a collar appearing thereon showing but one wing thereof-in the side view so that the tied neckwear may be secured at the rear side of the form with the knot projecting slightly forward over the edge of the form from behind said Wing.
to simulate the normal manner of Wearing the tie.
In the drawings I have represented a display form showing the bust and head of a man, and a manner of supporting the form and displaying a tie thereon.
Figure 1 represents the front view of the display form showing the tie in place.
Fig. 2 is a rear View of the form of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a side view of said forin looking from the right toward Fig. 2.
Fig. 4; is a fragmentary enlarged cross sectional view on the line l4 of Fig. 2.
Referring particularly to. the drawings, the form 4 is comprised of flat cardboard or the like having a suitable thickness.
Suitable supporting means is provided on the rear side of the form and is preferably made rigid therewith and of a folding character. This is effected. by the provision of an easel support 5 and a cardboard strip 6 preferably hinged to the easel support 5, the strip 6 being glued or otherwise secured to the form 4;. In the making of the form, while the pieces 5 and 6 are laid in fiat relation as a single piece before being affixedto the form, aliap'? is cut out thereon by channel shaped cut 8, indicated partially in dotted lines in Fig. 2, part of the flap 7 being from the strip "6 and part from the support 5. A triangular "piece .9 is likewise formed in the support 5. The triangular piece 19 being coextensive with the strip 6 on the rear side; of the form, has a- I hinging relation with the flap 7. The
length of the flap 7 lying in'the support 5 f is preferably less than the width of the flap to permit a notch 10 to be formed in the edge of flap 7 so that it may be opened 1 out for locking the support 5, at. right angles to the form 4. i
; Also, while the pieces 5' and 6 are laid in flat relation, a second longitudinal flap 12 is cut therefrom. to open downwardly away from the form. The flap 12 also comprises aportionfrom each of the hinged parts 5sand 6. The flap 12 is out and the strip 6 is secured to the form in such a manner that the end of the flap is located adjacent the edge 13 of the form 4. On the front of the form the figure comprising shirt- 14, collar 15 and face 16, is arranged that the collar shows but one wing thereof, the edge of which is identical with the edge 13, beneath which the end of the flap 12 is located. In the present instance the shirt portion of the form extends beyond the vertical line of the edge 13 as indicated at 17. A neck tie 18, having a knot 19 and the neck band 20 therein, is placed with the band over the strip12, with a portionof the knot under the edge 13 of the collar, and with the strings of the tie laid forward over the shirt portion 17. In some instances, of course, the form may be conf structed so that the shirt portion 17 to one side of the center line of the edge 13 is not sullicient to support the tie on the front of the form for proper display. Hence, I provide a. lug 17 along the base over which the tie may be placed to effect the same result, the tie practically covering the lug.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a useful display form for neckwear which is cheap, attractive, economical to manufacture, and capable of being folded into a small space, making it a. desirable form in all these respects. It is further obvious that the invention is not limited to the precise form disclosed but may be embodied in other arrangements according to the scope of the appended claims. 7
I claim as my invention:
1. A display form adapted for the effective display 'of'knotted neck ties comprising,
in combination, a form adapted to be placed uprightly ifor the display of a neck tie having a four-in-hand knot therein, a figure on said form including a collar and showing but one wing and the end edge thereof in a side view, and means on the rear of said form to hold said neck tie with said knot partially behind the wing of said collar, said tie having its strings hanging from the end of said knot to lie in front of the form.
2. A display form adapted for the effective display of knotted neck ties comprising, in combination, a form adapted to be placed uprightly for the display of a neck tie having a four-in-hand knot therein, a figure on said form including a collar and showing but one wing and the end-edge thereof in a side view, and a longitudinal member at the rear of said form lying substantially horizontally along the portion behind the neck and adapted for receiving the neck band of the tie, said strip terminating at the edge of the collar whereby the knot in the tie projects from beneath saidzwing.
3. A display form adapted for the effective display of knotted neck ties comprising, in combination, a form adapted to be placed uprightly for the display ofa neck tie hav 7 ing a four-in-hand knot therein, a figure on said form including a collar and showing butone wing and the end-edge thereof in a side View, a portion ofthe form lying at both sides of the vertical line of said collar edge, means on the rear side of the form to secure a tie thereto with the knot partially behind the wing of said collar Where-- thereon representative of a dressed person, 5 said figure including a collar and showing but one wing thereof including the end-edge, a support for said form, and means on the rear side of said form adapted to hold the neck band of the tie in such a manner that the knot thereof projects away from the form from under said wing to simulate the normal relation of the tie to the collar when being worn.
i 5. A display form adapted for the effective display of knotted neckwear comprising, incombination, a form having a figure thereon representative of a dressed person, said figure 1nclud1ng a collar and showmg but one wing thereof includlngthe end-edge,
a support for said form, means on the rear side of said form adapted to-hold the neck band of the tie in such a manner that the knot thereof projects away from the form from under said wing to simulate the normal relation of the tie to the collar when being worn, and a lug projecting from said figure away from the vertical line of said collar edge, said lug being adapted to reh ceive the tie'thereover on the front side to JAMES R. HOLLAND.
