I J. F. SHARROCK WATERPROOF GARMENT Filed May 23, 1925 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Invenifor: Josepk/F shawroozz,
CHE s.
JOSEPH F. SHARROCK, OF SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS.
WATERPROOF GARMENT.
Application filed May 23, 1923. Serial No. 640,889.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, JOSEPH F. SIIARROCK, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Salem, county of Essex, and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Waterproof Garments, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is aspecification, like characters on the drawings representing like parts.
This invention relates to waterproof garments and particularly to hoods and capes, and aims to provide a novel and inexpensive combined waterproof hood and cape.
In the drawings of one embodiment of my invention selected for illustration and description,
Fig. 1 is a front view;
Fig. 2, a rear View;
Fig. 3, a plan of the. blank sheet of material showing the development therefrom, by folding, of the combined hood and cape; and
Fig. 4, a detail of a modified form of my invention partly broken away for convenience.
Referring first to Figs. 1 and 2, my novel garment comprises a. hood portion 1 and integral cape portion 2. The cape is provided with suitable snap or other fasteners 3. The hood is provided with tie strings 4 suitably secured to the opposite sides there of. The cape and hood are of conventional shape generally.
Referring to Fig. 3, the blank 5 shows in outline the general form of the hood and cape before the formation of the same by folding. The hood portion of the blank is folded along dotted lines 6, 7, the triangular sections 8 being folded downwardly and inwardly against the pointed sections 9.
and the corners 10 carried downwardly and inwardly against the infolded sections 8, bringing the several holes 11 on each sideinto registering position where the several folds are secured as by eyelets 11, Figs. 1, 2, or other suitable fastening members.
The cape portion is similarly formed by folding the triangular sections 12 forwardly and outwardly along the lines 13 against the sections 14 and these folded sections forwardlyand outwardly against the cape body 5; and the sections 15 rearwardly and outwardly along lines 16 against sections 17 and these folded sections rearwardly and inwardly against the cape body 5. These folded sections are secured by eyelets or other fasteners through the holes 18, see Fig. 1.
These folding operations cause the hood and cape generally toconform to the con ventional shapes of hoods and capes sufficiently closely to fit well, and being seamless, to give good protection from rain or snow.
The cape and hood are preferably made from thin waterproofed paper of inexpensive quality so that they can be folded compactly and adapted for sale fro-m a vending machine. Furthermore, being inexpensive they may be sold at alow price and then, after being used once, thrown away. If either hood or cape is wanted without the other, they may be readily separated by tearing or cutting along the line 19 conforming generally to the neck portion of the cape.
If preferred, the cape and hood may be formed of separate pieces of material, Fig. 3, and attached along the neck by suitable fasteners 3.
The dotted lines 20, Fig. 3, indicate the general shape of the cape when folded as in Fig. 1.
This invention is not limited to the precise embodiment thereof described and illustrated herein, and I claim:
A one-piece substantially keystone-shaped waterproof garment blank with a .V-shaped slot in each side wall of the blank forming the neck 19, cape section 5 and hood section 1 and having the holes 11, in the hood section and the holes 18 in the cape section, constructed and arranged to be folded along the lines 6, 7, of the hood section, the triangular section 8 being folded downwardly and inwardly against the pointed section 9 and secured thereto through. the holes 11, and the cape section to be folded forwardly and outwardly along the lines 13, the triangular sections 12 so formed to be folded against the sections 14 and these folded sections to be folded forwardly against the cape section 5; the sections 15 to be folded. rearwardly and outwardly along the lines 16 and'tlie section so formed laid against the section 17 and these folded sections folded rearwardly and inwardly against the cape section 5, the folded sections secured to each other through the holes 18. I
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
' JOSEPH F. SI-IABROCK.
