Description
May 19,1931. L. WQFREEMAN CUFF FOR TROUSERS Filed May 28, 1930 M reemar M w w 'Patented May .19, 1931 OF IC LGUIS w. FREEMAN, onentanwnsr VIRGINIA f curs roa rnonsnnsq 1 7 7 Application filed May 28, 1930. Serial N o 456,7 1 1 This invention relates to apparel and more illustrating the mannerfin which the openings particularly to trousersof the type in which cuffs are formed at the lower ends of the trousers legs. 5 At the present time it is customary to form cuffs at the lower ends of trousers legs in order to improve the appearance of the trousers. In some cases the cufis are merely formed by turning up the lower portion of the trousers legs and pressing themto form a cuff. and in other cases the cuffs are stitched at their upper edges at spaced intervals circumferentially of the trousers legs in order to retain the end walking through sand. or across very dry soil, sand and fine dirt will accumulate in the end. It is sometimes difficult to remove the dirt and dust from the cuff, and, therefore, one obj ect V and thereby prevent the openings from showing and also prevent the lower edge ofthe trousers leg from havlng a ragged appear ance.
Anotherobject vi-de the cuffs with outlet openings of such shape that the dust and dirt will be permitted to pass freely through them out of the cufi' and also to so be prevented.
The invention is illustrated in the accoma panying drawings, wherein p Figure 1 is a perspective viewof a pair; of trousers having cufi's formed with outlet openings in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken on theline 22 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective view looking at the inner face of a trousers leg and in its proper position. It has been found that dust collects inthe cuff and if a person is of the invention t0 probind the margins of the openings that fraying about the openingswill are formed; and 7 Fig. L IS a view show ng the manner in wlnch the leg of a pair of trousers is cut to form the outlet openings The trousers, indicated in general by the numerall, are inmost-respects of a conventional"constructionand have the usual body portion 2 andlegs 3; The lower portion of eachJleg is to bej'turned'upwardly in order warm a cuff shaving an outer wall 5 and inner wall "6 and the outerwall may be left of the trousers legs are folded] upwardly to form the cuffs," each leg is cut'in spaced relation to its lower edge to form openings 7 which vare spaced from each other circumferentially of the leg and these openings are buttonhole stitching, as shown at 9, in order to'prevent fraying. Itshould be noted'that,
these openings are so located that when the lower end portion of the leg is turned up wardly to form the cuff the openings will be located inthe inner wall of the cuff with free at its upper'edge' or it may be stitched "at spaced'intervals about the circumference of the trousers leg. Before the lower ends their-straight cut lower edges coincident V with the lower edge of the cuff. Therefore,
openings will be formed in the bottom of the cuff through which dust, sand or other dirt may easily pass. By this arrangement dust and dirt will be prevented from collecting in the cuffs. Having thus described the invention, I claimr 1. Trousers having lower ends ofthe legs formed with cuffs, openings being formed in the inner wall of each cuff inspaced relation to each other and each having a. straight lower edge substantially coincident with the lower edge of the cuff.
2. Trousers having lower ends of the le s formed with cuffs, openings being formed in the inner wall of each cuff in spaced relation to each other along the lower edge of the cuff.
3. Trousers having lower ends of the legs formed with cuffs openings being formed in the inner wall of each cuff in spaced relation to each other, each opening having a straight lower edge coincident with the lower edge of the cuff and being tapered upwardly.
4. Trousers having lower ends of the le s folded outwardly and upwardly to form cu 5 having inner and outer walls, each trousers leg having openings cut therein in spaced relation to each other circumferentially of the leg above the fold line and disposed in the inner wall of its cuff and serving as outlets for dust and dirt deposited in the cuff.
Trousers having lower ends of the legs folded outwardly and upwardly to form cuffs having inner and outer walls, each trousers leg having openings cut therein in spaced relation to each other at opposite sides of front and rear creases of the trousers, the openings being located above the fold line constituting the lower edge of the cuff and disposed inthe inner wall of the cuff, and stitching forming a finish for margins of each opening.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
