UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JEFTA PQPOVITS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN PELERINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,278, dated August 18,1874; application filed June 27, 1874.
To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, JEFTA. Povovrrs, of.
the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Pelerine, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figures 1 and 2, respectively, represent front and side views of my improved pelerine for ladies wear and Fig. 3, the pattern for cutting the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to furnish for ladies winter wear an improved pelerine, which keeps the shoulders and body comfortably warm, and fits body and waist in an elegant and convenient manner. My invention consists of a pelerine which is cut of one piece of suitable fur, provided with shoulder-protecting flaps, fitted and connected at the waist, and arranged with rear extension.
In the drawing, A represents my improved pelerine, which is cut in one continuously connected piece, of any suitable fur, in such a manner as indicated by pattern B, Fig. 3. Pattern B is constructed with side parts symmetrical to its central axis, consisting of front flaps a, having suitable tassels 0/ attached thereto, and of side flaps b, which connect with the sides (1 of the rear or bustle extension a, when fitted to the waist, by being either permanently sewed together, or being adjustably attached to each other by means of silk or other ribbons f of suitable colors, formed into ornamental ties or loops at both sides of the waist. Intermediately between and above the front and rear flaps are arranged the central and side shoulder-flaps, g 9 which fit, when connected, roundingly over the shoulders, and keep the same comfortably and snugly warm, while giving at the same time free play to the arms. The shoulder-flaps may also be ornamented with tassels or other trimmings 9 if desired. The rear or bustle extension 0 of the pelerine is also suitably rounded off or expanded, which shape is imparted to the pattern by stretching and cut ing it on a suitable forming-block, which I desire to cover by a separate patent.
The upper neck part h may preferably be made of differently-colored fur trimmings, and
the front parts connected by suitable buttonand-loop fastenings.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A pelerine for ladies wear, constructed from the pattern shown at Fig. 3 of drawing, and permanently fitted or adjustably connected at the waist part, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set fort J EFIA POPOVITS.
I'Vitnesses:
PAUL GOEPEL, T. B. MOSHER.
