Be it known that I, ARTHUR Boacrmnn'r, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Partitloning Means for Wagon Bodies or the like, of

which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanyin drawin which are a part of this speci cation. This invention relates to improvements 111 artitioning means for wagon bodies, or the iike, and one of the objects of the invention is to provide novel means of simple construction for securing a partition member to the wagon body so that the Wagon body will be divided whereby different commodities may be hauled and not permitted to mix or run together.

The invention contemplates providing stop means on the wagon body, preferably in the form of a. pair of strap irons secured to the bottom of the wagon body against which the lower edge of the partition memher bears when the partition member is in operative position; and a further object of the invention is to provide means for raising the partition member bodily with respect to the wagon body to free it of engagement with the stop means.

A more specific object of the invention is to provide in combination with the stop means, secured to the wagon body, bearings attached to the respective sides of the wagon body 1n each of which is journaled an eccentric member and which has rigidly secured thereto a transversely extending rod on which the partition member is hin edly mounted, whereby when the rod an the eccentric members are partially turned, the prartition member is raised sufliciently to ee it of engagement with the stop means so that it may swing on the rod and the contents of the wagon body, which have been held in place by the partition member, may

be discharged and when the rod and eccentric members are turned backwardly, the partition member is forced down or back into its normal position, that is to say, in

hearing engagement with the stop means.

The invention consists in the novel arrangements, constructions and devices to be hereinafter described and claimed for carryin out the above stated objects and such 0t er objects as will appear from the 7, 1921. Serial No. 513,439. r

Referring now to the drawings, the invention is. illustrated in connection with a wagon or truck body comprising a bottom portlon 6 and side portions 7 which may be of any desired construction.

The respective sides of thebody are preferably provided with horizontal flange portions 7 which form supports for hearing members 8.. The bearing members 8 have ournaled therein eccentric members 9 which are formed with aligned apertures 10 for the Insertion of a transversely extending rod 11, the rod being rigidly secured to each ,eccentric member by a pin 12, see Fig. 3.

A partition member 13 extending transversely across the wagon body is hingedly mounted on the rod 11, preferably by pro viding a plurality of vertical extending strap irons 14 riveted or otherwise secured to the partition member, the upper ends of which are provided with a loop portion 15 which encircles the rod 11. Members 16, preferably in the form of short lengths of strap iron secured to the bottom of the wagon body, form stop means to limit outward swinging movement of the partition member. If desired, a stop member 17, preferably also in the form of short lengths of strap iron, may be secured to the sides of the wagon body, so as to bear against the opposite side of the partition member to limit inward swinging movement thereof.

It will now be apparent from the foregoing description, assuming the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 2, that when the rod 11 is turned, the eccentric members 9 will also be turned in their respective'bearings and the partition member will be raised sufficiently to free it of engagement with the stop members 16 so that it may swing outwardly, that is to say, in the direction indicated by the arrow on Fig. 2, to permit the commodity which has been held in place by the partition member to flow outwardly underneath the partition member. The arrangem'ent described is particularly useful and convenient in connection with wagon or truck bodies adapted to be tilted so that their contents-may be discharged through the rear end when in a tilted position. When so used, the partition member will readily swing to open position under the weight otthe load bearing thereagainst so that the load may be quickly discharged. When the wagon body is lowered, the partition member swings by gravity backwardly against the stop member 18 and by turning the rod 11, the artition member may be forced downwar ly into binding engagement with the stop member 16. To facilitate turning the rod 11 and the eccentric members '9 carried thereby, the rod 11 is preferably provided with a handle portion 11" It will be obvious that a plurality of such partition members may be applied to a wa on or truck body if desired. The prin- Q cip es of the invention may also be applied to the end ate of the wagon or truck body, as will be obvious to those skilled in this art.

The combination with a wagon body the side walls of which are provided intermediate their ends with inwardly projecting stop members, and the bottom of which is provided with an upwardly projecting stop member out of ali out with said first stop members, of bearing blocks secured to the tops of said side walls; an eccentric member journalled in each bearing block; a transverse rod rigidly connecting said eccentrics; a partition member pivotal y carried by said rod, the lower portion of which is adapted to engage between said stop members, said partition member being bodily liftable by movement of said eccentrics to disengage said bottom stop member whereby it is free to swing on said rod; and a handle for turning said rod.
