Description

2 F. S. CHENOWETH WAGON ATTACHMENT Fild April 2-5, 1925 Patented Aug. 4, 1925.
UNITED STATES FRANK S, CHEN'OWETH, 0F REYNOLDS, INDIANA.
W'AGON ATTACHMENT.
Application filed April 25, 1925. Serial No. 25,855.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, F RANK S. CHENOWET'H, a citizen of the United States, residing at Reynolds, in the county of \Vhite and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Wagon Attachment, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an unloading board to beemployed in connection with truck bodies of the dumping type, the primary object of the invention being to provide novel means for discharging the load of the body at an oblique angle with respect to the sides of the body portion, so that the material contained in the wagon body may be deposited at one side of the road.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be readily and easily positioned, and one which may be used in connection with motor vehicle bodies now in use, eliminating the necessity of making alterations in the body construction to apply the board.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a board of this character which may be moved from one side-of the body to the other so that the device will discharge its load on either side of the road.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without depart-ing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevational View illustrating a wagon body as moved to its dumping position, the same being supplied with an unloading board constructed in accord ance with the invention.
7 Figure 2 is a rear elevational view of the wagon body in its dumping position.
Figure 3 is an elevational View of the supporting pin that supports one end of the board.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 indicates the chassis of a motor truck, and thereference character 6 indicates the dumping body thereof.
While the endgate of the body has been omitted in the present showing, it is to be 55 understood that the board formingthe subject matter of the present invention s to be employed in connection wit-l1 the usual endgate.
At the rear end of the body portion and 6 formed in the bottom of the wagon body are a plurality of spaced openings 7, which openings are adapted to accommodate the lower end 8 of the pin 9, which pin is of a length equal to the height of the side boards 5 of the body portion so that the board 10 forming the essence of the invention will be braced throughout its entire height against the pressure of the load or material within the wagon body.
Formed on the pin is a flange 11 which acts as a stop to engage the wagon bottom and prevent the pin from moving through the opening in which it is positioned. The board 10 is provided with straps 12 that are 7 formed with loop portions to accommodate the pin 9 so that the board may be positioned in a manner as shown by Figure 2 of the drawing.
The length of the board 10 is such that when the board is positioned for use, the free end of the board will engage one of the side boards of the wagon body to cause the board 10 to be supported at an oblique angle with respect to the side members of the body portion as shown by Figure 2.
It is obvious that with the board 10 in a posit-ion as shown by Figure 2 of the drawing, the body when tilted rearwardly to dump its load, will cause the material to be discharged laterally, or at one side of the road, thereby eliminating the necessity of the operator of the vehicle, moving the vehicle over the usual perishable edge of a road to dump the load at one side of the road.
As shown by dotted lines, the board 10 may be moved to engage the opposite side board of a wagon body, with the result that when the body is dumped, the material contained therein will be thrown in the opposite direction.
I claim 2- In combination with the dumping body of a vehicle, said body having a plurality of spaced openings formed in the body thereof at the discharge end of the body, a support- In testimony that I claim the foregoing ing pin having a flange and adapted to be as my own, I have hereto affixed my signa- 10 positioned within one of theboplenings, said ture in the presence of two witnesses.
