SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 536,865, dated April 2, 1895.

Application filed December 29, 1894- Serial No. 533,321. (No model.)

To all whom, it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ZACARIAH FETTERS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cheneyville, in the county of Vermilion and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hauling and Dumping Wagons; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,such as will enable others skilled in'the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a plan view of the invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of same with bed piece 0 broken away.

This invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in hauling and dumping-wagons, the object being to provide a wagon especially adapted for carting sand, gravel and other loose material, and having its box or body so arranged that the load can be readily and quickly discharged without the use of shovels or scoops.

WVith this objectin view the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, all'as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the appended claim.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the running gear of a wagon suitable for the cartage of dirt, sand, gravel and other loose material, and which may be of the ordinary construction.

B designates my improved box or body, which is closed at each end but is open upon one side as indicated. This body or box is rigidly secured to a longitudinal beam or bed piece 0, which extends underneath the body about centrally thereof, and whose ends project to a considerable distance beyond the ends of the body or box. These projecting ends are formed with journals D, which are provided with loose bearings in boxes d, secured to blocks E, one of which is placed upon each bolster F, and is held thereon by means of its notched ends which engage the shoulders or standardsG.

Extendinglongitudinally of the body at the rear closed side. thereof is a beam I, which is parallel with the beam G and whose ends project in a similar manner, the thickness of the beam being such that the ends thereof will rest upon the blocks E in the manner indicated to normally support the box or body in substantially horizontal position. Said box or body may be strengthened by corner braces J, by end postsK set in the beam 0, and by irons L secured in the beam I. M designates a hook which secures the body in its horizontal position. To dump the body this hook is disengaged and the body is swung on the journals D.

A removable board, after the fashion of an end gate or tail board may be employed to close the open side of the body if desired.

The body may be applied to the running gear of any vehicle suitable for the particular kind of work.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The herein described side dump wagon body, consisting of a box open at one side, a longitudinal beam 0 secured to the under side of said box about centrally thereof, and having its projecting ends provided with journals which engage bearings carried by the bolsters, a longitudinal beam F also secured to the under side of said box at the rear portion thereof and having projecting ends which normally support said body, the end braces K secured in said beam 0, and the braces L secured in the beam F and to the back portion of the box, substantially as specified.
