Description

Jan, 1311925. 1,522,479
- M. L. ALDRICH COVERING FOH CONTAINERS Filed Aug. 5, -l923 ATTORNEY I Patented Jan. 13, 1925.
MARGARET LIVINGSTON ALDRICH, OF BAR-RYTOWN. NEW YORK.
COVERING FOR CONTAINERS.
Application filed August 3, 1923. Serial No. 655,446.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARGARET LIVINGSTON, ALDRiGi-I, a. citizen of the United States, and a resident of Barry-town, in the county of Dutchess and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Covering for Containers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to coverings for cases, such as dress suit cases or typewriter cases, having a projecting handle, and has for its main object and feature the provision of suitable means whereby the weight of the object to be enclosed does not have to be sustained by the covering.
In the accompanying drawings the invention is disclosed in a concrete and preferred form in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a covering and case embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. l.
1 indicates a metal case such as is used for typewriting machines, said case having a projecting handle 2. 3 is the covering here shown as being of flexible material, said covering constituting a container having a flap 4:. Said flap, or the material adjacent thereto, is provided with an opening 5 here shown as an elongated slot so that when the typewriting machine case 1 is enclosed within the covering its handle 2 W111 pro ect through opening 5 when the flap is in its closed position. Imbedded in the flap is a reinforcing strip 0 of steel or other material, and this strip is adjacent opening 5 and secured to said strip 1s a handle 7.
It will now be understood that,
when case 1 is! within the covering and flap 4 is in its closed position, handle 2 of the case projects through slot 5 and comes adjacent to handle 7 so that both may be grasped at the same time whereby the weight 5 or objects.
I claim Means for enclosing an object having a pro ect1ng handle comprising: a covering container of flexible material and provided having an opening for the protrusion of the handle of the object to be carried, a reinforcing element in said flap adjacent the opening, and a handle on said reinforcing element adjacent the opening, whereby both handles may be grasped simultaneously with one hand.
Signed at Camden, Maine, in the count of Knox and State of Maine, this 24th day of July, 1923.
MARGARET LIVINGSTON ALDRICH.
