Description

W. H. CLARK DEC- 23ag *i924* y APRON Filed April 15. 1924 Patented llec. 23, i926@ WILLIAM H. CLARK, OF CLEVELAND, OHIG;
APRON.
Application led April 16, 1924. Serial No. 706,901.
T aZZcUzm/t t may conce/rn.:
Bc it known that l, VWILLIAM H. CLARK, a citizen ot the United States, residing at tlleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Aprons, of which the Yfollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in aprons and has tor an object to provide a structure wherein the several parts will at all times be snugly and comfortably titted upon the body of a. wearer.
Another object isto provide an apron of this character in which the leg portions will cover a major portion of the wearers legs.
lt is likewise an object toprovide an apron with a crotch portion and with means whereby the portion will at all times be retained in proper position regardless of the movement of the wearers legs.
Other objects will be in part obvious and in part. pointed out hereinafter'.
In order that the invention and its mode ot operation may be readily understood by persons skilled in the art, l have in the accompanying illustrative drawings, and in the following detailed description based thereon out one possible embodiment ot the same.
ln these drawings:
Fig. 1 is a liront elevation;
Fig, 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section showing the crotch engaging portion and Fig. l is a view showing the extent to which the leg portions cover the wearers legs.
This type oli apron is well adapted for use by mechanics, automobiliste etc. and provides an apron which may be readily applied and which will reliably protect the 'lront and sides of the wearers clothing and in addition protect the portions of clothing lretween the legs at the crotch. At this point it is desired to bring out that while somewhat similar designs ot aprons are known to exist, they do not provide means igor reliably protecting the clothing at the crotch of the wearer. In order to properly aliord this protection, the portion designed to ali'ord the same, must be held against working forwardly and out of the crotch when the wearer is moving about. None of the types known by me, overcome this objection.
Havine' more particular reference to the drawings throughout which similar characters of reference designate similar parts this improved apron maybe stated comprising a body portion B made up ot a single piece of material or ot complemental sections stitched together asv at 5 and having pockets secured thereto. j Leg portions 6 are included and are of sufiicient areato cover not merely the front and sides ot' the legs but in v addition a part of the back portions thereof.- As shown, the lower ends ot the leg covering port-ions 6 are provided with adjustable straps which engage the legs of the wearer and retain the portions 6 in proper rela-tion to the legs.
rlhe Lipper end or bib ot' the apron is provided with an adjustable neck strap 5l tor supporting the apron. A waist strap 9 is attached at one endto one side ot the apron body portion and has at its other end a. fastenerl 10 which lits over a button or the like 11 carried by the apron. Each of the straps: heretofore referred to includes a structure as just outlined.
ln order to provide protection for the clothing at the crotch ot.' the wearer and insure this protection under all conditions, l so design the apron as to 'form an eX- tension or crotch portion 12 which when the apron is in use, assumes the position illustra-ted in Figures 2 and 8. In these figures it is seen that this crotch portion not only extends quite a distance through the crotch, but is provided with means whereby itl will maintain this relative position as regards to wearers body. This means includes a connection between the rear end of the crotch portion and the waist stra-p 9, the connection being preterably in the form ot what I term a crotch strap 13. This crotch strap 13 is stitched or otherwise secured at onel end 14- to the crotch portion and is provided at its other end with a buckle 15 through the use oit which a loop 16 is formed tor the reception of the waist strap 9 as shown. rlhis loop is adjustable so as to vary the length of the strap 13 for use by persons of ditferent sizes and proportions. Upon applying this apron to the body, the crotch strap may be adjusted to the desired length to suit the particular individual wearing the apron and may thereby be rendered comfortable to him and at the same time function as intended. It is quite obvious that as illustrated in Figure 2 there is no possilhll bility of exposing the crotch portion of the wearers -clothing to dirt etc.
Through adjustment of the neck strap and the crotch strap, this apron may be quickly adjusted Jfor use by different sized persons.
Certain changes in some of the minorfdetails of construction may be resorted to and such changes as fall withinv the scope of the appended claims, I consider' within the spirit of my invention.
I claim:
1. An apron comprising a body portion having its lower end bifurcated to provide leg portions, portions of the apron being arranged to extend through and cover a major part of the crotch of a wearer, a waist strap on the apron and means for directly connecting the crotch covering portion and the waist strap to retain the crotch portion in snug engagement with the body of the wearer.
2. An apron comprising a body portion having its lower end bifurcated to provide leg portions, portions of the apron being arranged to extend through and` cover a major part of the crotch of the wearer, a waist strap on the apron and a crotch strap connecting the crotch covering portion and the waist strap to retain the crotch portion in snugengagement with the body of the wearer.
3. An apron comprising a body portion having its lower` end bifurcated to provide leg portions, portions of the apron being arranged to extend through and cover a major part of the crotch of the wearer, a waist strap on the apron, a crotch strap secured at one end to the crotch portion and adjustable connection between the waist strap and the crotch strap whereby to snugly engage the crotch portion with the body o a wearer.
4. An apron comprising a body portion having its lower end bifurcated to provide leg portions, portions of the apron being arranged 4to extend through and cover a major part of the crotch of the wearer, an adjustable waist strap on the apron, a crotch strap secured at one end to the crotch portion and adjustable connection between the waist strap and the crotch strap whereby to snugly engage the crotchy portion with the body of a wearer. v
In testimony whereof, I ailix my signa# ture.
WILLIAM H. CLARK.
