Description

E. P. THURGOOD COMBINED HOT AIR DEFLECTOR AND FOOT REST Filed Dec. 21, 1923 INVENTOR. E Q Thuvgood,
l atented bins. 25 192 i.
EIBENEZER 1P. THURGOOD, OF HOLLY, MICHIGAN.
COMBINED HOT-AIR DEFLEG'IOB AND FOOT REST.
Application filed December 21, 1923-.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EBENEZER P. THUR- eoon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Holly, in the county of Oakland and 5 State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Hot-Air Deflectors and Foot Rests, of which. the following is a specification.
This invention relates to combined hot air 10 deflecting and foot rest devices adapted to be located over a register or other passages for hot air, and has for one of its objects to simplify the construction and increase the efficiency and utility of devices of this 15 character.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out an in the claim, and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention Figure 1 is a perspective view, and
Figure 2 is a transverse section, of the im :15 proved device.
The improved device comprises a supporting frame including end members each formed of vertical portions 10 and a horizontal integral portion 11, and a connecting member 12. The horizontal portions 11, the horizontal bar 12, and parts of one opposite pair of the vertical portions 10 are connected by a sheet metal plate, the latter including an upper portion 13, and a vertical portion 14.
The portion 13 is bolted or otherwise secured at one edge to the bar 12 as at 15, while the portion 14: is spaced at its lower edge above the line of the lower ends of the vertical portions 10, and the lower edge rolled over as indicated. at 16, to provide the requisite stiffness. The sheet metal Ine1nber 13-14 is also attached by rivets as shown to the horizontal ortions 11 and one pair of the vertical portlons 10.
The combined frame and sheet metal plate constitutes a deflecting device and is adapted to be disposed over a hot air register indicated conventionally at 18,0r other hot air passage, as shown in Figure 1, with Serial No. 682,027.
the rolled edge 16 spaced from the floor in which the register is located, this space pro viding for the free passage of air over the upper face of the register.
The device thus constructed is open at both ends and at one side and partly closed at the other side, and deflects the air rising through the register or other passage and distributes it laterally.
Extending between vertical portions 10 and attached at the ends thereto, are foot rest members 19, the rests being spaced above the lower lines of the vertical portions 10 and likewise above the lower line 16 of the portion 14 of the sheet metal member. By this means the feet resting on the members 19 are maintained above the lower line of the portion 1st and above the influence of any cold air currents passing beneath the same.
The improved device is simple in construction, may be of any suitable material or of any required size.
The preferred. embodiment of the invention is disclosed in the drawings and set forth in the specification, but it will be understood that modifications within the scope of the claimed invention may be made in the construction without departing from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described. the invention, what is claimed as new is A device of the class described comprising a frame including end members in spaced relation and each including spaced vertical side portions, the end members being of substantially inverted U-shape, an imperforate deflector element attached. to the upper part and to one vertical side portion of each of the end members, transverse brace devices connecting the side portions of the end mem-- hers, and a longitudinal brace device eonnecting the end members, said brace devices being spaced above the lower ends of the members to also constitute foot rests.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature hereto.
EBENEZER P. THURGOOD.
