Patented Aug. l3, I901. P. GSCHWEND.
STIR BU P.
(Application filed July 12, 1901.)
I I hiorgeys ZYcwe/fl @2 19, by 1 WU asses UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PAUL GSOHWEND, OF CANTON, OHIO.
DESIGN FOR A STIRRUP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 34,929, dated August 13, 1901.
Application filed July 12, 1901i Serial No. 68,114- Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL GsoHWENo, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Stirrup, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a new and original design for a stirrup; and it has for its object to provide a design of this character which will be both useful and ornamental.
The leading feature of the design resides in the approximately U-shaped stirrup-body, provided at the top with a cross-piece and having its sides reduced and presenting outer concave faces and provided with marginal ribs extending around the sides of the body portion and terminating in divergent portions located at the ends of the bottom portion of the stirrup-body.
A minor feature of the design resides in the approximately U-shaped stirrup-body provided at the bottom and sides with ornamental openings, the bottom opening extending longitudinally of the bottom of the stirrup and provided with similar opposite semicircular edges, and the side openings consisting of intermediate horizontal elliptical openings and upper and lower openings having scalloped semicircular side edges.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective View of a stirrup, showing my new and original design. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates an approximately U-shaped stirrup-body provided at the top with a cross-piece2 and having its sides 5 tapered at the ends of the bottom 4.- and reduced above the same, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings. The
sides are provided at their upper and side edges with marginal ribs 5, having parallel intermediate portions and a rounded or semicircular top portion. The rounded or semi circular top portion 6 is located at the upper edges of the sides, and the lower terminals 7 of the marginal ribs diverge at the tapered portions of the sides and terminate at the ends of the bottom portion 4 of the stirrup= body.
The bottom 4 of the stirrup body is provided with a longitudinal opening 8, having rounded U-shaped end edges 9 and provided at intervals with similar opposite semicircular edges 10, which are connected by straight parallel edges 11. The sides of the stirrup are provided with upper elliptical openings 12 and intermediate elliptical openings 13, which are located between upper and lower ornamental openings 1i and 15. The upper ornamental opening 14, which extends longitudinally of the sides, is composed of ap proximately circular end portions 16, and it has large semicircular edges 17, which are located above and below a series of small semicircular edges 18. The lower ornamental openings 15, which are approximately in the form of a cross, consist of upper, lower, and side edges, which are semicircular, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The cross-bar 2 is round, and the upper elliptical openings, which are horizontal, are located above the cross bar or piece 2. The lower elliptical openings 13, which terminate short of the ribs, are disposed horizontally.
What I claim is-- The design for a stirrup herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
' PAUL GSOHWEND.
